Good morning everyone ,

I've finally been sent a job offer subject to a medical for the conductor role with Northern that I passed the interview for in may.

I'm currently a very secure job and a little worried about all of the news lately about Northern not being offered a new contract and possibly being nationalised.... Is this something I should worry about, I don't want to find myself in a position where I hand in my notice then have no job to go to....

You shouldn't be worried. I understand your concerns. But even IF Northern are renationalised, which is a big if, everyone who is employed would simply be TUPE'd over to the new operator. I would be very surprised if a job offer we're to be withdrawn as ultimately they still need to run trains.

Hey Paul,

Do you mind me asking how you were given this offer?

Via the post or phone call?

Thanks that helps ease my concerns a little

congrats Paul, I had my medical yesterday for the same role based in Manchester. I was thinking this tbh with all the press coverage on this very issue. I am inclined to think it won’t affect the workers so to speak. They still need to employ staff to get up and running with the 2000 extra services they have planned. If you go on the northern careers page they are still employing staff left right and centre so I doubt they would be doing that if there was a threat to the business.

I also recieved the great news by email yesterday. Provisional start date of 6th Jan, subject to medical completion. Well done to everyone who got the email and good luck to the other candidates who are still waiting.

Passed interview at the end of August. Still waiting for a conditional start date, pending Medical. The wait is a killer!
