Fare Enq. - Norwich NRW to Congleton CNG

Before the main thread for Routeing Guide Questions gets up and running could I just ask what maps are valid for NRW to CNG and what order they are in - I can't find it on the 'Yellow Pages'.

Also Is there a crafty split ticketing on the route?!

You need to look in the pink pages first, to find routing point(s) of Congleton. Then you'll see that Congleton has RPs of Crewe, Stockport, Stoke on Trent and Wilmslow group, and with that knowledge can now use the yellow pages to determine appropriate routes.

BTW, there's a lot of routes - I would start to list them, but have to get back to work

London Mid's Offer wont help me much!

Don't worry about the Routeing Guide Enq. as I have managed to half the cost and bring it down to £42.20 by buying:

£13.00 Off Peak Return (Norwich -> Peterborough)

£04.30 XC Adv Single (Peterborough -> Nuneaton)

£20.60 Off Peak Return (Nuneaton -> Congleton)

£04.30 XC Adv Single (Nuneaton -> Peterborough)

obviously, it depends on what time you are travelling, London Midland isn't too good on a Sunday, but
Nuneaton to Crewe return would be £6.60
plus two of;

£1.45 single Kidsgrove to Congleton
£2.90 single Stoke to Congleton
£3.45 single Crewe to Congleton

depending on the journey

You will be doubling back between Congleton-Macclesfield. To find whether this is allowed, you need to look for a relevent easement on this page:

The only easement relevent to Congleton is:
30106
Journeys from Macclesfield, Congleton, Kidsgrove and Longport via Stafford may travel via Stoke on Trent. This easement applies in both directions.
This does not allow you to bouble back via Macclesfield, so your Friday itinerary is not vaid on a Nuneaton-Congleton ticket. You should get a direct Stoke-Congleton train. Your Sunday route is, however, valid.

So could I route excess this to Macclesfield (£0.00) then buy a Single (£2.30 with SNR r/c) from Macclesfield to Congleton???

Just that there is approx an hour difference in the waiting for the direct train and going to Macclesfield because of the 'Double Backing'; my Dad isn't 100% due to a Motorbike accident last week - and to send him out in the cold for that long.

Yes that should be fine.

It's also worth considering, from Nuneaton it's generally going to be LM only to Stoke so you may be better off splitting there.

Nuneaton - Stoke Super Off Peak Return (OPR) LDN Midland only £7.25
Stoke-on-Trent - Macclesfield Anytime Single (SDS) Virgin Trnsonly £3.65
Macclesfield - Congleton Anytime Single (SDS) £2.30
Congleton - Stoke Anytime Single (SDS) £2.90
Total = £16.10 and valid for doubling back

For the sake of £4 & Simpleness for him I think I will stay with excessing:

OUT: NUN - CNG (to MAC) £0.00 16/04

RTN: CNG - NUN (from MAC) £0.00

Use Excess on 16/04 and rest on 18/04 (as return portion valid for 1 month from & including 16/04)​

Where do you get your excesses from?

Getting an excess can be anything but simple at some stations!

Just confirm my above plan about excessing both direction's is possible, please.

(*nowhere near Congleton or Macclesfield - but its on a mainline[I believe you know Yorkie])


If they say no I will find the appropriate section in the NrCoC and or Posters / Leaflets around the place no matter how long it takes!

Why mess around with an excess and a single.
Buy a Nuneaton - Macclesfeld off peak ticket.
Travel to Macclesfield on the outward ticket.
Start the return on the next train south and break the journey at Congleton.

Yes, excessing to Macclesfield without any requirement for a single back would be fine, as the return journey could be Macclesfield-Congleton on the 16th and it could then resume from Congleton on 18th.
