Interestingly, the inward working from Laira depot (13.06) into platform 7 at Plymouth North Road ( to form 13.25 to Edinburgh) is shown as HST. So, your guess is as good as anybody’s!!
No it doesn't, RTT doesn't show what's booked for a service.

Right, thanks. It wouldn't be the first time realtime trains is incorrect regarding the 13:25 from Plymouth on the 29/09/19 - I was seeing the same departures from Edinburgh / York to Plymouth which showed to be an HST all week or all but one of the weekdays - 06:45 from York and the 13:07 from Edinburgh. Incorrect that is. We shall see.

I've sent an email to XC Customer Relations this morning and just waiting for a response - we shall see!
It's not incorrect at all. Once again Realtime trains only shows the timing loads and NOT the booked traction.

Planning on travelling via Cross Country next weekend. Does anyone know the diagrams will be HST operated for the duration of the engineering work north of Morpeth? Thank you.

Hi everyone. I'm sure many people on here have reserved a seat on a XC HST before (since they made a comeback 11-12 years ago).

Here's a trick to make sure you don't lose your seat reservation, below...

If you're boarding at a station and the XC HST starts there, book the same seat type / position that exists in a Voyager. For example, seat 48 in Coach D, seat 37 in Coach F and seat 40 in Coach A are all window view table seats on the HST's and Voyagers. Same goes for some other seats and First Class too.

Before booking, look at the seating layout for both XC sets.

I'm not sure about next weekend but because of engineering works today, the 06:11 from Leeds to Plymouth and the 12:25 from Plymouth to Leeds are showing to be an HST today. Probably to save the extra hour and a half to Newcastle, typically!

What's the current status of the Crosscountry HSTs - are some of the sliding-door ones already in operation, and if so do they stick to any particular diagrams or is it pot luck day by day?

They work alongside the slam door HST so can turn up on any HST diagram. At the moment there are three sliding door sets and one slam door set in operation. The fifth set is currently being modified at Doncaster.

Thanks. So chances are, what turns up is most likely to be a modified one.

I thought they only had 4 sets?

Fridays require more I believe? Doubling up a Vomiter elsewhere or leaving it for spare?

Thursdays and Fridays both have all 4 available sets out at present (the 5th set is unavailable for use because it's at Wabtec Doncaster). All 4 are out as booked today.

Until December the following requirement is (I believe and Depending on engineering works):
Monday - 3 sets
Tuesday - 2 sets
Wednesday - 2 sets
Thursday - 4 sets
Friday - 4 sets
Saturday - 2 sets
Sunday - 4 sets
These normally allow double sets to run on the Scotland to South West route. On Fridays a double set also runs on the Bounmouth to Manchester routes as well.

Sundays sees the double to Manchester :p around early-afternoon. You are half-right though: the 09:00 arrival into Piccadilly on Friday used to be a double until the May '19 timetable change.

Are the XC modified hsts running reasonably reliably or are they having similar problems to scotrail?

After some initial teething problems with the first two power door sets, XC03 and XC01, they have settled down to operate pretty reliably.

Which is just as well, as from the diagrams described above Crosscountry have very little spare availability in their operational fleet of four HSTs and it's not unusual for all three completed power door sets to be out in traffic on the same day.

The Friday Manchester - Bournemouth diagram has returned to being booked a double unit again since at least September (There appears to have been a little jiggery-pokery with the Voyager diagrams at some point since August), working the following:

07:31 Birmingham New Street - Manchester Piccadilly
09:27 Manchester Piccadilly - Bournemouth
14:45 Bournemouth - Manchester Piccadilly
20:05 Manchester Piccadilly - Birmingham New Street

HSTs are nicer. Does anybody know until how long they'll be in service? Re. the double on Fridays it's probably only every other Friday it actually runs as a double! Certainly I haven't witnessed a double on it since Easter
