Other posts are suggesting that the FCC refurb program is on again.

Indicated that 319374 has gone for refurb and relivery [20th Aug]. First one went on 10th August.

Any confirmations please?

On the thread for NX, EM, LM, XC is a note that 321406 ex LM is in FCC livery, This is with already completed 401/403/404.

321407 is at Eastleigh for refurbishment. 321402/405 are in operation in Silverlink livery.

321408/409 are believed to be stored awaiting transfer. 321410 may still be in operation with LM.

FCC 319374 returned to service.

Andrew Chambers has photographed 319370 and 319381 going to Wolverton for refurb.

There is one 143 in Local Lines livery. Also, a few 143s still have 'Visit Bristol' branding as of April.

A note on James Welham's fotopic site indicates that 317347 has had the internal refurbishment and is soon to be reliveried at Doncaster in the "FCC City Lights" scheme.

thejunction.org suggests that the unit is 317348.

Can anyone confirm which unit please?

I can't comment on the rest of their recent major update but the FCC (TL) gen sounds duff to me.

Based on a combination of UKmodernEMU posts and LocoScene pictures over the past few years, it is known that 41 319s were refreshed at Wolverton prior to the programme suspension - 10 /3s (361-369/377) and 31 /4s (421-428/432-437/440-442/446/448-460). Additionally, 10 319s (372/373/429/431/438/439/443-445/447) had been repainted.

Since then they've refreshed another 6 /3s (370/374/379/381/382/385) and another pair (375/383) are in progress right now. Only 6 other /3s (371/376/378/380/384/386) still carry the remants of the 2nd-gen TL livery, and 430 of course continues to bear the 3rd-gen TL livery by itself.

Although not totally relevant to the main thread, 377503 hasn't even left Derby yet and may not do so until January at least.

Rails around Welwyn calls 317344 the "purple survivor". This suggests that 317346 may have gone for refurbishment - any confirmations please?

Photographs and thejunction.org.uk confirm that 319378 & 319380 are refurbished and reliveried.

Still no photograph to confirm 319384. Correction - 319382 remains unrefurbished.

I know this is old but it's now in operation with FCC, although I have no idea to what livery is being carried.

It was the booked train on my journey home on Tuesday but because of work reasons, I missed the connection to catch it, :(

What livery is it?

Yes - the /4s didn't appreciate being told what to do by Northerners! Was still colourful to see them up and around though.

Andrew Chambers has photographed FCC 319386 going into Wolverton.

Still in old livery are 319371 and 319382 - confirmations/contradictions please?

Photo by david Strickland shows 319382 in FCC livery - maybe a few months old.

Does that mean FCC got all of the trains then? I thought it was rumoured they were getting just five, then six.

Not all of them have CCTV - will that be fitted to all of the trains? What about CIS?

All the 321s from what I've heard from drivers will have CCTV indeed the work has been done with just the cameras needed to be installed - only time will tell when that gets completed.

I know 401 to 410 are currently marked for FCC usage but with less 313s coming our way, expect extra 321s instead.

Which ones these could be, I have no idea but the FCC livery looks smart on the 321s.

I think the FCC livery in general look smarter without the fade to the light blue- ie looks better in the version on the 321s and 377s than the 313, 317, 319 and 365 version.

You're not far wrong there, I much prefer the 377s and 321s version then the first version as applied to 313s, 317s, 319s and 365s.

Yes and no. I think the new trains look a bit more ordinary, but that might be because the livery on the others appears to be fading a bit and the colours are washed out.

I'm currently on a 321 writing this and do think they've done a good job on the interior - although I am in the declassified first class compartment!

Do the toilets have retention tanks by the way? And did the 317s get them fitted again recently? Neither toilets say not to flush in stations now.

I thought the first class on the 321s wasn't declassified as there's been no briefs to us staff about it - unless the train was packed and declassified for that reason.

Still, interesting to know that - mind just try it out tomorrow as my train home is booked as a 321.

As to retention toilets, the last I heard they were to be refitted to the 317s - haven't heard anything since though.

They're not declassified all the time, just on a handful of services to WGC and Hitchin/Letchworth that would ordinarily be served by 313s. Some are down as 4-car services instead of 6-car, presumably for logistical reasons, which means no first class in operation!

If a 6-car is ever short-formed to 4, they'll usually tell people they can use first class. However, ordinarily they don't and even after a number of years, most people don't know and I rarely tell anyone. ;)

No change on the 321 repaint front as of yet, as 321408 is still at Doncaster.

BUT
407, 409 & 420 have all been dragged to Hornsey, so expect to see them heading up to Doncaster in the coming months.

This leaves only 4x 321s still in Store at Eastleigh - 2 more of which will be heading to FCC (418 & 419)

At least one 321 for FCC is the wrong way round, making first class at the country end. Will this be turned around after it gets the FCC treatment?

It's quite a walk to the other end of the train for first class users. GN users aren't told where FC is on any given service, unlike TL.

Yes but you must remember the 319s with First Class can easily be turned which is why TL passengers are advised where it is unlike GN passengers where First Class is always in the same place regardless.

Still, there is hardly any place to turn them apart from maybe using Cambridge Junction at Hitchin but I don't suppose Network Rail or the others would be too chuffed with FCC doing a shunt move or two but saying that I'm sure at the end of service with nothing about it could be done.

Quite common at Cambridge to have FC location on the displays for West Anglia (NXEA) services- given that thanks to the mix of 317 sub classes, it can be any carriage out of the 4, or one from the from four, one from the rear four on an eight car service. I'd like to the see the same on a 12 car Networker- "First Class is located in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th and 12th Carriages".

There's no chord that could be used for turning at Hitchin, though.
