My daughter and some friends are taking part in the Bridges walk in London this Sunday. I suggested they buy day returns from Rochester to Battersea Park (where the walk starts). The walk ends near London Bridge. As they could either use SE Trains or Thameslink from there, I put the question about validity of returning directly from London Bridge to Rochester with those tickets. SE Trains said it was OK but Thameslink said they were NOT valid. If the TOCs cannot agree among themselves what chance for the poor passenger. They will probably now buy more expensive 1 Day Travelcards to make sure they are not penalised.

Both ooerators are right, depending on which ticket they choose!

Battersea Park, very sensibly, has a NOT VIA LONDON fare, and a + NOT VIA HS1 (and + ANY PERMITTED which we can ignore).
The first is obviously not valid at LBG (or VIC!) but the second clearly is, as the + permits cross London travel.
A London Terminals NOT HS1 is priced midway betwen the two, and (for completeness) would be valid to travel to Battersea Park via Denmark Hill and Clapham Jn and to return from LBG. IMO the saving of £2 doesn't warrant the extra hassle and journey time.
There is certainly no need to buy Travelcards.

To be fair to both TOCS my enquiry to them said Rochester to Battersea Park via Victoria.
