A Greater Anglia Class 90 and carriages comes sauntering along the northbound before parking up in the siding a few yards north of the station. Why would such a move take place and which route would it have taken to get onto the Hertford Loop?
Freight train ambles past the southbound platform. What is the most likely origin and destination?
Normal local Hertford North loop services appear to non-stop Bowes Park quite a lot despite being basically being all stations services. Any particular reason for this?

The 90 will likely have come via Stratford, Canonbury, Finsbury Park and then reversing in the siding at Bowes Park to go to Bounds Green LNER depot or Hornsey GTR depot - maybe to use a wheel lathe?

Some trains skip Bowes Park in the rush hours. There are more trains run at this time, and some skip stopping is done to make the end to end journey a bit quicker. Quite possibly some trains run empty or limited stop Moorgate to Gordon Hill to do another trip in rush hours too.

The Greater Anglia set is a daily event. It comes from Liverpool Street to Bounds Green for servicing after the morning peak. I believe it is happening while Norwich Crown Point depot is being modified to accommodate the new trains.

Details showing the routing here:
https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/L73590/2019/09/13/advanced

There is an afternoon return working back to Liverpool Street here:
https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/L73977/2019/09/13/advanced

I don’t know about the freight but if you poke around on realtimetrains you should be able to identify it.

The siding north of Bowes Park station is the turnback siding giving access to Bounds Green depot for northbound ecs services and I believe is used on a daily basis.

Access to Hornsey depot is normally via the flyover for northbound ecs services (which also has it's own turnback sidings).

As stated above trains can wait for a long time in the turnback sidings (to be slotted inbetween timetabled freight and passenger services.

There is nothing unusual about these movements and are listed on Realime trains etc, you just might to have to dig around a little.

Yes, there are quite a few trains which skip both Bowes Park and Grange Park in the peaks, both with the flow and the opposite direction.

To get it to Bounds Green depot; it would have reversed and not gone via Hertford.

Impossible to say without more information; there is a wide variety of freight through this location.

There are many services that do not call at all stations. Because there is no need to call at all stations and the timetable gives a better service for people travelling from further afield who don't want to be on trains that call at every station.

Every day there are many booked reversals at Bowes Park reversing sidings, many freight trains passing through, and many passenger trains calling there. None of this is unusual.

If this was Wednesday, it was set off 0624 Norwich to Liverpool St which ran to Bounds Green, at Bowes Park at 0942 then goes back later to form 1810 back to Norwich. Freight train would have been the Peterborough West Yard to Bow service, which passed Bowes Park at 0949

It's always that service. As already mentioned this is to take some pressure off Crown Point during the redevelopment and this is a special maintenance diagram. Come hell or high water that train will run otherwise it can cause trouble!

Before it went to Bounds Green the diagram saw the set spending all day at Orient Way
