GWR Conductor passed 1st assessment day

Hi,
Back in July I ‘passed’ the 1st assessment day. The email said they would contact me in due course about the next stage.
As of yet I’m still waiting to hear anything. I emailed them for a bit of an update but was told they would contact me when they know anything.
I guess what I am asking is; has anyone been successful at the first assessment but NOT been asked to attend the second?
Would they have invited more successful applicants first and that’s why I’m waiting here all this time?
Can you tell that I’m overthinking things over here in this radio silence?!

Where have you applied for? It seems Paddington and Reading may be moving slightly quicker than elsewhere, I know there’s a talent pool for Cardiff for example.
I’ve posted elsewhere, there is a chance that you might not be offered stage 2 if you passed stage 1, if for example lots of people passed stage 1 then they have to get the numbers down somehow and will do a paper sift through the applications. There’s no real way of knowing, from keeping an eye on here during my own recent application process, some people have moved really quickly at every stage, others not so quickly, some have heard back about the next stage after quite lengthy waits, so keep your fingers crossed and keep checking on here for what others have posted to get a general idea on movement. They may well invite for stage 2 according to your assessment 1 results and work their way down a list for example, there are a lot of different variables in the equation of who gets offered what and when!

Edited to add; I was applying for TM rather than conductor, but it’s the same process for both grades as far as getting invited for stage 1 and stage 2 and there were a mixture of applicants for both grades and different depots on both my assessment stages

In answer to your question, yes it is possible to pass the first assessment and go no further, I know this from experience. The wait you are experiencing is also not unusual.

Having said that look on the positive side if you’ve heard nothing then you are still in the game and if you do unfortunately get a knock back then at least you won’t have to do stage 1 again in the next few years.
