Understanding Edinburgh day tickets on the buses

Stagecoach - £5.30 - excludes tram
One Ticket - £5 - any bus, excludes tram; cannot be used after 23:59
Tram (cash) - £4 - includes Lothian buses
Plusbus - £3.80 - any bus or tram
First - £5.50 - excludes tram

Lothian Day Services
Skylink 200/300/400: in City Zone
East Coast Buses: Zones A & B only
Lothian Country Buses: City Zone
Edinburgh Trams: City Zone

The £4 Day Ticket is NOT valid on Airlink 100 at all
(Not sure if Family Day Ticket is accepted on Airlink)

The £9 Network Day Ticket is valid on:
Lothian Day services
Lothian Night services
Airlink 100: all Zones
Skylink 200/300/400: all Zones
East Coast Buses: all Zones
ECB Nighthawk services: all Zones
Lothian Country Buses: all Zones
Edinburgh Trams: all Zones

ECB also offer their own Day Tickets:

Unlimited travel in county zones B – F

It should also be be noted that for many of the options there are child equivalents.

There is also a Lothian Buses Adult only DAY & NIGHT Ticket (£3.50)
which is available only from 6pm and is valid on all Lothian Buses DAY services, in the City Zone and on all Lothian Buses NIGHT Buses (not valid/available on Airlink)

Handy if you use the tram, but sadly nae use to me, I'd need to get the bus to get to a tram stop!

I had to use the bus & tram yesterday, but since you can't use capping on the tram I had to get on a 124 for one stop to buy a day ticket with contactless! Integrated ticketing they said

This is where it gets a bit trickier. those traveling a bit further than the city boundary, Stagecoach have 2 divisions operating to Edinburgh, Fife & West Scotland.

For Fife, there's a Fife Dayrider Plus valid throughout Stagecoach Fife, boundary extends to Dundee, Perth, Stirling & Falkirk £11.50

There's an East Scotland dayrider, which is valid on the whole division including X7 as far as Aberdeen, £16 adults

Then you have West Scotland which operate the 101/102 from Dumfries & Biggar-Edinburgh,

There isn't. The "city zone" is all the way to Ingliston P&R, i.e. not the Airport. So they're saying the same thing in different ways.

They do these things just to confuse!

I asked for a day ticket using my card but was the capping instead where you tap your card , would of prefered just a day ticket .

Trams have their own back office functions these days including scheduling and ticketing. Daytickets etc. are purely cross purpose because they're in the operating agreement. Contactless capping is not part of that agreement.

The M-Ticket app has an offer of 5 daytickets for £18. These need to be used within 180 days of purchase.

I can't understand why anyone would buy the First or Stagecoach ticket when the One Ticket is cheaper!
