Hello Jamesb - It depends on the add-on. The best way to be sure is that decent websites will have a compatibility section/description for each product that says which sim each add-on will work in, some will only work in one and not the other and some will work in both, so the easy/best way is to look at the product page and it should give you your answer. - Hope that is of help.

Hi mate, usually it should tell you on the pack if you have got the boxed version like take Newcastle -to- York Modern it says on the pack 'For Railworks & Rail Simulator'. :)

Although I have heard a rumour that developers of these add-ons are aiming at Railworks more than Rail simulator now days?

We develop add-ons to work in both Rail Simulator and RailWorks as far as can as that makes sense to reach the largest number of simmers but there are differences beneath the surface between the two sims that will only allow certain features to work in one of them and in that case certain features will only be available in the RailWorks version and not in the Rail Simulator version. RailWorks is the latest version and has more potential to allow new features to be shown, so moving forward we will continue to develop for both sims but RailWorks will continue to grow and be developed by its developer and allow more features whereas Rail Simulator is no longer being developed by its developer. Hope that is of help.

Hiya,

Nothing for RailWorks is intended to work in RailSim. RailWorks is effectively the same product but with over a years worth of more development, and counting. Any addons being sold on Steam for RailWorks will require you to have RailWorks or Steam will not let you make the purchase.

Regards
