CCTV cameras that can pick out abandoned luggage, suspicious behaviour and lock onto potential suspects are being developed by UK researchers.

It is hoped the technology could help prevent terrorist attacks by spotting odd elements in a situation before it can escalate.

I wonder if the cameras will be able to spot people with cameras!

Seems like a pretty good idea though, if it allows the camera operators to be alerted to things that need some further investigation/attention - as against just sitting there looking over multiple screens hoping to get lucky.

I can't help but notice that there's a NSE train there, must be old footage.

I saw a demo of a similar type of type of thing some years ago. The demo made it look absolutely wonderful with carefully staged "incidents" being spotted by the cameras.
The system never came into use as it was generating far too many false alarms.
I fear this system shown today was a BBC/Government "propaganda" clip !!

Having watched this video, I am extremely worried. Why?

- Slightly Arabic appearance (slightly darker than white but not coloured skin, very dark hair and a slight beard)
- Combination of rail enthusiasm plus Asperger Syndrome resulting in regular backtracking and watching of trains pass and noting details
- Regular presence of backpack, easily large enough to conceal something large and potentially dangerous

Equals

"CCTV Terrorist", does it not?

It was broken up in 1994. I think most trains will have time to be repainted in those years. It is certianly not "recent".

They were new in 1994, therefore the paint had a 10 year warranty. Yes, there's been plenty of time to repaint them, but the warranty would have been voided.
