Hi All,

Just wondering, can the class be dispatched by Train Managers/Conductors from the back cab? At Leeds recently, I saw an Azuma on test, and the doors were closed from the rear cab by one of the train managers/competency managers. I've also noticed they have full controls on the bulkhead of the cab?
In service however, they all seem to be dispatched from the saloon?

Thanks
Matt

Did the train depart after the doors closed?

Lner passenger services can not be despatched with the guard using the cab door. They use the door nearest the accessible toilet in the first carriage.

The cab does have door controls next to door, but should only be used when locking a set up

Rear three coaches dispatch on GWR and panels are at the front of each coach. Never seen a GWR cab dispatch

The train didn't depart, no they were testing the ramps ect. I take it the slam door is the reason they can't be dispatched from the cab?

That's what I find strange, and the door of a 150/1 doesn't have interlock either, just a manual lock

I'm not aware of any requirement for a door to be interlocked for dispatch to be allowed (for instance the cab sliding doors on PEP EMUs do not have an interlock, and it used to be usual practice on Merseyrail to give 2 and wait by the open door for the train to clear the platform). Though due to a nasty accident (sadly involving a guard I sort of knew), I believe Northern guards are required to manually lock the slamdoor before giving 2.

I've seen Train Managers at GWR dispatch from the rear cab, when a 5 car IET rolled in on a Sunday through Oxford, very full and standing, hence why the TM used the rear cab.
