I have noticed that in a few recent videos showing GEC Alsthom 465s, the dynamic brake has been re-enabled. Is this a one off or do SouthEastern plan to reinstate the dynamic brake on all GEC 465s?

There were quite significant infrastructure issues at substations that weren't affected by the Hitachi retractioned 0s and 1s - I can only assume that NR have performed the necessary modifications to affected substations. Apparently the brake blocks needed replacing far more often on the units with the braking isolated, so this will be welcomed by SE

I never knew it had been, I thought that if the third rail couldn't accept regenerated power when braking it would simply revert to rheostatic braking and thus still save on brake pad wear.

Yes, until recently all GEC 465s were using air only - now some of them have had dynamic braking re-enabled. I'm not sure if they are using regenerative or rheostatic.

Ah hadn't realised that, must've cost them a fair bit more in brake pads.

What do you mean by 'recently' ?

I'm pretty sure the dynamic brake has been working for a few years now.

It has been working on the BREL/ABB units since the replacement of the GTOs, only recently have some of the GEC 465s had dynamic braking re-enabled.

I've only noticed it in videos of the GEC 465s over the last month. GTO Means Gate Turn Off, which used to control the traction motors on BREL units. I believe the GEC units still use GTO inverters.
