As for what I've been reading online, it appears that Southern will be running their class 313 EMU's between Lewes and Seaford, and between Brighton and Worthing.

However, in a very angry sounding article in the Bexhill Observer today (My local newspaper), it was reported that these would be operating from Eastbourne as well.

Who is wrong? The stuff I've read online, or the newspaper? =/

From the "Southern Class 313s on Test" Thread :)
http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=29550&page=3

Class 313s will be used between Monday to Friday only from 23 May 2010. Four Class 313 trains (4 x 3-units) will be used to run the following services:

• Two trains per hour between Brighton and Seaford
• Selected trains between Brighton and Lewes, Hove, West Worthing and Littlehampton (see details below):

0557 Brighton – Littlehampton
0600 Brighton – Lewes
0626 Lewes - Brighton
0722 Littlehampton - Brighton
0722 Brighton – Lewes
0758 Lewes – Brighton
0822 Brighton – Lewes
0846 Lewes - Brighton
0823 Brighton – West Worthing
0909 West Worthing – Brighton
0944 Brighton – Hove
0954 Hove – Brighton
1014 Brighton – Hove
1024 Hove – Brighton
1044 Brighton – Hove then on these shuttles till:
1724 Hove – Brighton
1753 Brighton – Hove
1800 Hove – Brighton
1817 Brighton – Seaford
1922 Brighton – Lewes

More trains will be used on other local coastway routes from December 2010 and more information will be communicated closer to the time.

Hopes this sorts out your confusion :)

Talking on confusion and 313s, how many are going to Southern and FCC? The various magazines seem to be at odds as to what the split is with reports of 15, 18 and 19 to Southern, the balance to FCC. Is there a definate number yet?!

Not sure about FCC but for Southern i think they are getting enough to replace the 377/3s. And a couple spare.

They have somewhat reported that story wrong. The 313s arent going Hampden Park. These will be served by 377 (4car). 313s wont make the joruney longer really, between Brighton and Seaford the trains don't get anywhere near 100mph.

Yes they have no toilets, I'm sure people can hold their bladders :D. Or just go before they get on the bloody train.

I love how it is reported as if its disasterous.

Having previously been a resident of East Sussex, I can safely until the arrival of the class 377 trains the area of East Sussex was at at the bottom of the pile. I would say that the people that are now at the bottom of the pile are those that are served by pacers, class 150, class 507/508 and any other trains made between 1976 - 1990.

Yeah it was, but since then the London area (SE, S and part of the SW) has been top of the pile for investment. I mean does it really need new 377s that will be replaced when they are 4 years old by new stock, and they will then be sent to a TOC with way too much stock Off peak while trains in the North are busy all the time and there is no plan for new stock?

The 377/3s will relieve pressure in on the busiest routes in South London making some trains 10cars. But you are right loads will be spare off peak.

I know these trains are 30+ years old but would the majority of users know that, once they have finished the refresh program? I doubt they would tbh.

It depends on the quality of the refresh. If the refresh is up to the standard of the Merseyside class 507/508 trains refresh then they probably would not recognise the trains are 30 plus years old other than from maybe the quality of the ride in the train journey.

Those would be the perfect trains for the Marshlink if it was electrified. Obv refurbished with Turbostar interior, rather than low seat silverlink crap. :p

Well as far as i am aware When the 377/3s are retrofitted for Metro working, the 2+2 seats will be removed and i think these are going to go the refurbished 313s.

Southern have plans for all the East Coastway- Brighton services to be 313.
The ore services will become Brighton to Eastbourne and eastbourne to Ore to ensure the 1 hour without toilets isnt exceeded.
Will gradulaly be phased in in 2011.

Hmm, i was under the impression that a 377 would go to Eastbourne to connect to the service to Ashford. AS the 171 service will be Ashford-Eastbourne.

Hmm.. not bad but in my view there is a bit to much of that "slime" green on this version of the livery and not enough of the slightly darker and more pleasing to the eye green.

The 313's are so slow. Should only be used on inner suburban work in my opinion.

Yes their top speed is 75mph compared to 100mph. But the trains on the stopping services rarely reach near 75mph...

Anyway the accleration is ever so slightly better.

I don't mean to be rude, are you sure a 313 accelerates better than a 377? I don't think it does.
