Hitched a ride on one today and they are very impressive trains, right up their with European FLIRTS, but being on a busy carriage into Yarmouth the dwell time was atrocious, never took me so long to get off a train..

On the Yarmouth services that's not a huge issue as it's the terminus, but on some of the other routes, especially the Intercity ones and the Stansted Express units calling at Tottenham Hale, this could pose a problem, but hopefully can be offset by the faster acceleration of these units.

Any faster acceleration shouldn't be offsetting longer dwell times. If dwell times are that bad due to insufficient doors, that is poor planning and design. Was the decision to have just one pair of doors per carriage to improve the number of seats?

Trying to get off a busy 153 with that single door at each end is slow enough. was it seriously slower than that?

One assumes so. Stadler will supply vehicles with two sets, which the Welsh ones will have.

Although being able to achieve 1 minute dwell times is quite key to pumping consecutive trains through Tottenham Hale.

Nice to see it's gone well, does look a massive step up Inn quality for the local services.
Agree it's sensible to do a modest launch rather than fanfare only for things to go wrong. This is how it should be done and other TOCs would do well to take note.
Would it be fair to assume the 170 operated diagrams will be next to go over to 755 operation, given the impending transfer of the 170s to other TOCs?
Gutted I missed the chance to ride behind a 37 :(.

Just driven through Lowestoft, and the 37's are out to play!
I take it that they are used on an ad hoc basis?

i think the 37s are being kept until the end of August

The 37 went out today from just after Lunchtime on a different set trains to its previous workings. As noted it will be on standby covering for failures but will only operate between Norwich and Lowestoft / Great Yarmouth with the pack being shuffled around accordingly.

Nope the 170s are first to go as they're due to go over the TfW. The next route to see the Flirts will be Norwich-Cambridge then Norwich-Sheringham.

The 153s will, if anything, be the last to go as they're not spoken for yet?

Class 156s are already spoken for and going to East Midlands Trains.

Same uploader with the full journey in the 755:

It is indeed a very quiet train... I'm not sure how far this was recorded from the power pack though, but it looks like an enjoyable ride with considerably less noise from the 153's or 156's (other than the passengers ).

The speakers for the PIS seem a little...over the top?
In what way do you mean?

Didn't sound that bass'y when I was on it myself, but the PIS did seem to get confused where we were at one point, but sure they can fix that up.

Listening to that video on a set of good headphones, the speakers sound like they're much more powerful than on most rail vehicles. Almost like what I'd expect if I played that audio through an actual HiFi.

So right, what a stark contrast to anything on Northern new or old , perhaps if abellio kept the franchise back in 2016........ Couldn't help but read that in Jim Bowens voice
The starlets comparison for peeps in Northernland is how quickly these have come into service compared to either Northern's or TPE's new stock.

I managed a round trip yesterday, the announcements are audible but not too load, as for general noise, it sounds like an EMU if you ride close to the cabs, or a diesel loco if you are next to the power-pack / engine room / whatever it's known as! Walking through the corridor past all 4 engines working isn't deafening but I'd not want to stand there if the train was full.... There's more space than the older units for wheelchairs, bikes, prams & screaming kids but it does make moving through the train virtually impossible.

T'was interesting to compare the round-trip to / from Lowestoft (37's & 2 Mk.2's) with the 755, the lack of working Air Con + the noise from the loco's was sooo last century.....

I doubt that the 755's will do much work as EMU's but I'd enjoy a ride in one on the GE Main line, especially on one of the semi-fast diagrams, I've been riding Stadler EMU's in Germany recently & they all scooted up to line-speed without fuss or drama.

Sounds like a really solid experience... I seriously cannot wait to try the trains out at some point next week when I get the chance.

As for when they'd be able to squeeze in the LWT - LST services into GEML traffic, it's a wait and see game.

I'd expect 755s to work daily on the mainline as there are 4 through trains to/from Lowestoft. I think it's likely they'll be diagrammed on a few late night mainline runs rather than sending out a virtually empty 12 set.

I believe the current 0614 departure from Lowestoft is likely to be a through train, think it used to be one of the 170 through trains.

If that comes to fruition I expect it'll be doubled up with either an arrival from Bury or a fresh unit at Ipswich as to use a GEML path at that time of day on a 4 car would be madness!

Based upon my experiences I generally found these new trains to be almost perfect. However, there was a few issues as always on first day, one was the PIS system not displaying all the stops to Yarmouth but showing them on the way back and the clock being out of sync. Another is there is quite a gap on the step on the coach furthest away from Yarmouth station. However this will not affect any carriage which has wheelchairs in it as that is the 2nd or 3rd carriage which had an almost perfect alignment. New techology, Victorian infrastructure, doesn't work brilliantly together.

Will the 755 be out this weekend? Is it only the one unit being used in passenger service?
It is great to read so many positive reviews for once. Hats off to Stadler as this is their first UK offering, and they achieved an almost faultless soft launch.

I was very impressed with the Norwegian NSB Type 75 FLIRT units. And it looks like the UK version is good too.

Am unsure as to whether one will be out at the weekend but it may well cover whatever the short Set was doing. Only 410 is currently on passenger duties with more coming online in the next couple of weeks. Maybe Norwich - Cambridge next

Does anyone know whether they are running to Sprinter speed differentials?

The Saturday diagrams show one working the 06:40 Cambridge then going onto fast Yarmouth's from 09:59 with another covering a Cambridge diagram from 09:38. Be interesting to see two in traffic but not expecting it.

Used to be a bit later than that. Varied from 06:44-06:56 from Lowestoft. There was nothing around 06:14 as the previous train was the 05:29. It attached to the 07:05 ex-Yarmouth at Ipswich with both running non-stop to Liverpool Street.
