"First" ticket on the TVM's

i was just wondering who would need to purchase the First anytime return from the ticket machines? they are around 2 to 3 times the price of a standard anytime return, and this standard ticket is fine for riding the FGW trains. why the huge price?

The 'First' on the ticket name indicates it is a first class ticket.

Yes, they also more more cash than braincells (but then as a member of railway staff you couldn't possibly say such a thing )

there was a time when NXEC did super cheap singles is 1st class on Saturday mornings (around £7 with YP railcard)... traveling between Newark Northgate and Kings Cross

Hmm, yeah. odd. the way it reads on the screen (not mentioning the word "class") makes it look like it's referring to the train operator -"First" as in FGW

Still plenty bargains. I've just booked a KingsX to Donny for £11 for next weekend (with no railcard)
And the same distance northwards - Donny - Newcastle for £7.
It still doesn't have to be expensive.

And there's still journeys cheaper in 1st than in Std, even on EC!
(Personally, I consider £4 more expensive in 1st doesn't count if the coffee is free)

My mum once thought that 'first' on the ticket machine for FCC was for FIRST Capital Connect. Luckily I corrected her!

I wonder how many irregular travellers actually have made that mistake, but would probably never admit it. I guess RPIs would know if they saw someone with a 'first' ticket sitting in standard class!

Definitely not valid on XC - you'd need to add another 'zero' to the price!

Reminds me of when the headrests used to just say 'First', so passengers were wandering around in confuison looking for standard class seats...or so the stories go!

There's a price list on Belper station quoting First Class fare. Problem is East Midlands trains dont have First Class accommodation from Belper. :roll:
