Hi, I would like to see if a ticket from Worcester to a few other stations would be valid via (slightly unusual) alternate routes. I best not mention them publicly. Could somebody please assist me?

The quickest way to find out is to input your intended journey (with via points) into a journey planner, such as tickets.tpexpress.co.uk.

Trainsplit.com will often offer you tickets to make the journey over a non-permitted route, where other websites wouldn't offer any fares.

Thanks, according to the journey planner, my tickets are valid via those routes, despite seeming unlikely. What if the train staff say my ticket isn't valid or that I "have gone the wrong way"? As I say, the routes I'm going aren't the usual expected ones.

I would bring with you a valid itinerary on paper or on your phone to show the route is valid.

Are you starting and/or finishing from the stations listed on the ticket or will you be traveling from and/or stations along the route?

I'm not travelling to the station on the ticket: I'll be getting off-peak day returns and breaking my journey short somewhere along the route. It makes the ticket price to my destination station considerably cheaper.

If you want to PM the details I could offer an opinion (not a particularly expert one, though).

I'm guessing you're trying something like Worcester - Bromsgrove but going up the Kidderminster line then hopping off at Brum? Don't think this would be valid if so :)

Not that exactly.....but you're not far wrong!

I've tried more than one online journey planner (by using the "travel via") option, and it's definitely valid using that route.

It also would seem to work if I were to try the same thing to get to a certain part of Wales.

If it is the one I am thinking that may seem unlikely to be valid along a particular route, I have done this in the summer of 2016 and 2017. See private message.
