Hi all,

Curious about the way online journey planners are interpreting the routeing guide for the above journey.

Liverpool-Harwich International costs £96 SOR Not London.

I am getting this outward journey by choosing NOT LONDON.

Norwich arr. 12:13
dep. 12:30
Manningtree arr. 13:17

Arrive:
Harwich International, 13:43

This seems to indicate that travel via Norwich is permitted on the £96 SOR.

The bizzare thing is that a Liverpool-Norwich SOR costs £131, some £35 more expensive.

Can anyone actually confirm this is a valid route by the routeing guide, and if so, what maps can be used?

Most of the time I know people say just get reservations and they can't argue, but as I have a PRIV, I have to go to a station and the STAR JourneyPlanner reckons on this not being a valid route.

No.

The appropriate Routeing Points for Harwich Intl are Ipswich and Manningtree. None of the 16 map combinations between Liverpool Group and Ipswich or Manningtree allow Norwich - Diss - Ipswich travel. This is needed to avoid doubling back.

To travel Liverpool - Norwich using SOR tickets, it's best to split. For example,
Liverpool - Sheffield £35 route Stockport
Sheffield - Nottingham £19.40
Nottingham - Peterborough £27
Peterborough - Norwich £25.50
Total £106.90

Other splits may be slightly better.

No. Peterborough - Harwich Intl route Not London is valid by map CN only. All the permitted routed are via Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket.

but if you book and it sends you via norwich, print the itinerary, get reservations and you have formed a contract and no-one will argue with reservations and an itinerary via norwich.

How is being on a refurbished NT or SWT 158 any worse than being on a Voyager or similar? Arguably it's much better.

Admittedly the 158s that are used on the Norwich-Liverpool route are often in a very bad condition, but that's not the fault of the unit type.

I don't see any issue with 158s at all, other than the ones that are in a bad condition internally. To generalise the whole class as being tatty is unfair.

Sorry to cause confusion - I mean the Norwich to Liverpool 158's not the whole of the class overall.
I feel the refurbs on the EMT units have hard seats and a bit to chilly when the air con is on.

It seems a lot of journeys to/from e Anglia aviding London offer the route Bury St Edmunds and Ely, or Norwich and Ely to get TO Peterborough and beyond.

I took the route a couple of weeks ago from Manchester to Norwich. It was strengthend between Liverpool and Nottingham. Both 158 units were refurbed and very nice. It only cost me £18 single on an advance ticket.
