Stage 2 Assessment

Hey all,

Just received the news that I have been successful at stage one. I am now wondering does anybody have the software for stage two testing? Or any idea where I could obtain this so that I can practice before hand. Any help would be amazing.

After completing and passing stage 2 recently, my advice is not to worry too much about the computer tests and focus more on the MMI. It doesn't seem like it's possible to me to practice for stage 2 like you can with stage 1, the tests all have practice bits before you start and there is no limit on how many practices you can have. Correct me if I'm wrong anybody, but the tests are more like you've got it or you haven't. Only one person did not pass the tests on my stage 2 assesment but this person did not seem to have done any preparation for even the MMI.

I agree. I would always advise to have an awareness of the computer assessments at stage two, but not dwell over them for too long. The MMI is the part you need to be focussing on and preparing for without a doubt.

I passed my stage 1 yesterday, and I’m onto the stage 2.

I’ve read about the interview stage, but am struggling to find any info on the computer part.

I haven’t applied for a mainline post, but as a manoeuvrer with GWR based in Reading.

Congrats on passing the stage 1! You’ll be sent practice material the same as you were with your stage 1. Stage 2 testing is more about coordination than stage 1 so it’s a case of not really having much to practice. My advice is to obviously have an awareness of the tests but don’t worry too much about practice. It’s far better and more worthwhile to practice for the MMI (which should be part of this stage) as that’s what catches a few people out. Naturally, as it’s an interview, the more pre you do, the better.

I received the email invitation this morning, but the attached guides are the same as for the stage 1?

Are they not all sent at the same time anyway, via the RSSB book? My ones were when I was invited to stage one by the OPC for Freightliner (we were just told to focus on the relevant tests).

The email even says I will be doing the SJE and then the MMI.

But I did SJE as part of stage 1, and the assessor did say it was part of stage 2??

It’s just got me a bit confused, I’m not overly concerned.
I’ll concentrate on the MMI and take whatever comes I guess.

Is it the OPC doing the assessing?

I’ve noticed there are a few SJTs in driver recruitment sometimes. I think some TOCs do the SJT on a different day or as part of stage 1, whereas some do it immediately prior to the MMI or in the same day at least (that’s what I did). The SJT isn’t a pass/fail anyway, they just use your results to tailor the MMI ‘probing’ they like to do. Naturally I guess it’s better to to the SJT just before the MMI.

Occupational Psychology Centre. They do a lot of the psychometric testing for train companies. I’d imagine it’s not them who’s doing yours as you’d know by now (some companies do them ‘in house’). Which TOC is it?
