Huddersfield-Kidsgrove Return

Just a quick question, am I correct in thinking that there is an easement on kidsgrove tickets which allows you to travel to Stoke and double back, or is this not the case?

Cheers Mr Brian, the only reason I asked is that it's £3.10 cheaper to buy a Huddersfield-Kidsgrove than a Huddersfield-Stoke on Trent. Naughty I know I was passing on the gen to Mr Kinder.

On the subject of cheaper when there was a discussion about Micklefield to Selby and it been valid via Leeds, which is just aswell there is no direct service on evenings & sundays, which mean passengers have no choice but to change at Leeds. Anyway is £3 cheaper from Micklefield to Selby than it is from Leeds. Useless info but there you go.

Where was this discussed? It was discussed here but with a different conclusion.

Micklefield to Selby isn't valid via Leeds. However late at night that is the only way to do it on scheduled services so that would be fine. But during the daytime it isn't valid. Selby to York or Church Fenton would be fine via Leeds.

One thing which you should note when taking advantage of the above easement with a Huddersfield-Kidsgrove Saver Return is the following ticket restriction :-

Break of journey is not permitted except to change trains at an intermediate station or to access station facilities.

Although having studied it further, it seems that this only applies to the outward journey as it carries Restriction code 8A, so you shouldn't really have too many problem.

Aye I've used it twice with no problem and Mr Kinder had no issue with it yesterday. It's actually a much better ticket than the Stoke on Trent one, as not only is it cheaper, it also offers the opportunity to travel via Crewe or Stoke on both legs.
