EMT 222 Meridians

Ive noticed something a while ago with the meridians is that when the doors are closing it revs up and then when the doors have closed it starts rolling, then the driver applies more revs. could anyone explain how the driver is doing this?

Saw a thread on this a while back related to Voyagers so presume it was the same thing. I think it was related to the distribution of air or something similar, someone should be able to clarify exactly what.

It's a DEMU. Diesel engine powers the motors, so even at stand a certain amount of power is required.

When the door panel is activated, ie to close the doors, there is a slight increase in revs to increase the power available to the train. This carries through until all the doors are closed. When the train moves off, there is still enough power to get it moving, regardless of what the driver has done to the TBC. Even if he notches in P7, the revs will stay low until such a point extra revs are required (4mph ish). The engines then power up to take the train further.

Above applies to 220/221/222.

Hiya to answer your question ..the sequence is as follows

When stopping the driver selects the amount of doors that require opening at any given station ..then gives the train manager the release ,,in the cab a digital readout will show 4/5 etc indicating the number of doors being released when this indicator reverts to zero this indicates that the manager is about to close the doors ..the driver will then select forward with the forward/reverse selector which increases the engine revs ..when given the start signal the controller is moved to increase power when movement is detected the holding brake is automatically released and the train moves off ..simple..hope this helps ..eddie ( Driver ) E M trains
