I was changing at Slough, on my way from Windsor to Maidenhead, when a fast train sped through at really high speed, much higher than I am used to witnessing. According to Wikipedia it was a class 43, which has a top speed of 148mph. Normally my only experience with high speed trains is being a passenger on a Pendolino. Any ideas on how fast trains pass through Slough?

Trains will pass through Slough at the permitted line speed. A class 43 has a top speed of 125mph

Not in this case I doubt. (OTMR :) )

Still 125mph is pretty fast for most of the country.

Didn't have OTMR in 1983

Permitted linespeed is 125 through Slough.

I may be wrong, but I thought that an HST had made 150mph through Swindon in 1983

That will be have been quite hairy!! The current linespeeds on the up/down through/down is 80mph afaik!!

I was meaning to answer the OP

Full measured top speed IIRC is 148mph. In fact I believe it is the fastest diesel train in the world.
