Hi, yes he said I passed and they will be in touch regarding the next stages. He said this may take a couple of months due to actual dates they can fit people in.

No. The ETDL has no bearing on the tube.

Ok thanks. Not that I’m bothered I would prefer to see a bit of scenery anyway lol. If I actually passed it all to get to that stage haha.

Oh ok I got told the Stratford assessment centre. It’s a shame it’s not Watford for me as I think it’s probably closer lol.

Some TOCs do the paper tests in their head office and then the stage 2 at Watford.

Yeah I did stage 1 at the TOC head office in London then did stage 2 at OPC

Does anyone know why GA train drivers salary is quite low compared to other companies? I understand that Mainline drivers get less than tube but it says when qualified it’s £29k a year. And Once you get Mainline driver license can you transfer to tfl aka tube? Thanks.

Ah right, all will be £50k fully qualified give or take a few hundred. That’s without Sundays.

Pay talks are currently happening so + around 2% ish, hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Nope! Training is also £30xxx likely to increase to £31k soon. Think that’s for Colchester and Southend too, might be £29k maybe someone else can confirm. Definitely for Stortford though.

That’s really good just for training as I think it’s a years training and 6 months classroom study depending what TOCs it is.

Yeah it’s not bad at all. My training is set to be around 10/11 months in total, ish. I was in the classroom for 5 months now doing my hours hoping to be done by August/September.

Good luck with the rest of it. Are you doing the driving hours now with examiner? Have you found out if you have been offered a job at the depot you applied for? Or have you got to wait till a vacancy comes up?

I’m with an instructor yeah, about halfway into my hours. When you are offered the job they will tell you which depot. I’m a Cambridge driver on paper but will be swapping to Stortford once I pass.

Thanks mate, I’m right at the start I’ve only passed my SJT assessment just got to wait a couple of months for stage 2 assessments at Stratford. These first assessments must feel like ages ago for you lol. Thanks again and good luck.

Ah right, by stage 2 do you mean stage 1 psychometric assessments? Or have you done some previously?

Not really to be honest lol, I did mine with ARL in March-April last year though. It’s gone quick!

Sorry yes phychometric assessments next not stage 2 lol. Did you try and learn any of this before hand? Or did you just go for it and hope for the best? Think I’m going to look up some online revision for these assessments.

Apart from the Group Bourdon I didn’t have a clue, was kind of surprised at how many tests there actually were.

That’s the only test I would say would be good to practice really (on paper).

To be honest I’d almost go as far as saying you can either do the tests or you can’t, for the most part and for lack of a better explanation.

Most of the practice material they send isn’t amazing nor is it actually how the test will really go, it’s just to get you thinking in that mindset. As long as you go in there, fully understand what needs to be done and ask if you’re unsure, you should be fine.

If/when the time comes have a search on here for anything that might help you though, everyone is different.

Lee on the Railway jobs & careers page (before you come into a thread such as this one to view or comment on) there are four threads pinned to the top. One of them is titled Group Bourdon Tool and is free software that someone (apologies to whoever it was as I can’t remember) has posted. The program is designed for a PC but the best advice I can give is to print out the sheets and go through them paper and pencil as that’s how the test will be on the day.
There is another thread on becoming a train driver. I’d recommend having a read. As for the rest of the assessments there is a search function you can use to get an understanding of what they entail.
To an extent, I agree there is a bit of you can either do it or you can’t but I also feel the practice materials and this forum helped me to have the best idea of what to expect on the day which made me more relaxed and able to complete the assessments to the best of my ability. I’m the same I worry about stuff like that, always thinking how much I would love a job like this and if I fail just one part that’s it got to wait 6 months to apply again.
