I need to get my old photos scanned in. I've got a lovely shot of the last Northern Ireland Railways 70 class DEMU in the year it was withdrawn. Also a shot of 2 of the 3 NIR EE Hunslet locos in service (one on push-pull passenger, the other on an engineer's train) on adjacent tracks at Lisburn in 1992. Also a great shot of D200 leaving York on the Whistler Finale tour in 1985, the first coach almost completely obscured by steam.

There are some very rare photos of Sheffield Victoria that people have taken , my question is have you taken a rare picture, for e.g the last train on a line before it closed or a passenger train on a very rare route that now you are glad you took it as there is nothing like it around ?

:D

I don't have anything of vintage, but still in the realms of rarity, there's a few.

On hire to Central Trains for 12 days from Silverlink, somehow 150120 ended up on the Cross-City line whilst all AC equipment was working faultlessly. Short term replacement for a unit failure.
I have similar to dig out, let me know if it's not what you're after. Wouldn't want to spoil your idea for the thread.

Got somewhere pics of Wagn 313s working for Silverlink County when their 321 fleet was grounded some time pre-2005.

Please forgive my ignorance here. Somewhere I've got a photo which shows a steam loco with a pantograph. It is supposedly taken (postww2) in switzerland. Am I getting my leg pulled, or could it be genuine ?. I had dismissed it as a spoof until I seen an oil burning steam loco in the US on a tv documentary.

It's genuine, I've read about them before.
Can't think where though.

IIRC they used the electricity to produce the steam to power the loco, rather than coal. I think it was because coal was in short supply at the time, because of the war.

virgin buffered HST's, GNER 89, D9000 hauling a 325 at Newcastle...

Surely as two of these were everyday occurrences for several years they can hardly be considered to be 'rare'? There will be hundreds of people with pictures of them.

Possibly the only electric loco to go west of Chester..?
Certainly the only 90!

i saw an ews 86 at skipton being dragged by a 47 on a charter come to think of it...

Although Skipton is hardly a difficult place for electric traction to reach! Admittedly an electric loco is rare to the point that in the 10+ years I've lived along the line I've never seen one.

How the hell did that get there, Why was it there?

Quote from: http://www.nwrail.org.uk/nw0506f.htm

1D00 05:02 Birmingham to Holyhead on 25 June 2005 left Crewe hauled by a Class 57 with a Class 90 still attached to the train for some reason. Someone appears to have realised that Class 90s have never been checked for structure gauge on the North Wales Coast, so the 90 was detached at Llandudno Junction and left in the sidings. The 57 and the gold-buffered Driving Van Trailer returned with train 1A24 towards London. Later, 47 830 appeared to pick up the errant electric locomotive. Meanwhile, 47 854 ran well with a railtour to Llandudno and the Conwy Valley.
