Apart from demonstrators , test vehicles and aquistions from purchased companies did any SBG companies purchase Atlanteans new ?
Not to my knowledge - the Fleetline was the standard rear-engined double-deck purchase for SBG, mainly due to the requirement for low-height buses. There were a few Bristol VRs which didn't last very long and were eventually swapped for ex-NBC Lodekkas.Apart from demonstrators , test vehicles and aquistions from purchased companies did any SBG companies purchase Atlanteans new ?
Indeed. As @delt1c alludes to and as an example, the only Atlanteans that Central SMT operated were a pair of MCW-bodied highbridge PDR1/1s when the operations of Laurie, Hamilton (registered XVA 444 & 60 AVA) were bought in 1961. By 1969, both had been sold (XVA 444 to Graham's Bus Service of Hawkhead & 60 AVA to A1 (Steele)).Not to my knowledge - the Fleetline was the standard rear-engined double-deck purchase for SBG, mainly due to the requirement for low-height buses. Acquired with Newton of Dingwall, according to the caption in this photograph:I think Highland Omnibuses had an ex-Edinburgh Atlantean amongst its Fleetlines in the 1980s, doubtless acquired with a business.
The earliest fleetbook I have is from 1989, and they'd gone by then. Highland did still have a few of the ex-Grampian Fleetlines, as well as a few that originated with Dundee. My 1986 fleet book shows fleet numbers A352 - A356 Leyland Atlantean AN68/1R with Alexander AL H45/29F bodies converted from dual door.
They are listed as registrations NRG 165/7 - 170M and are shown as ex Grampian and Aberdeen Corporation.
Various images of them on Flickr.
Not purchased new but hope that helps.
Ah right. That I should've twigged when I came across a pic of AVA engineless in A1 livery. Since it was well before my time, I suppose such a error can be excused lol60 AVA went to A1 (Steele) after Central. Only XVA 444 went to Graham's.

And the post to which you replied acknowledges this:....but the query was 'purchased new'..........
We had established within the first few posts that the answer to the original question was "no". Do we just close the thread, or are we allowed to continue with a bit of discussion? I was unaware that Highland Omnibuses had any Atlanteans, so I've learned something from this. Not purchased new but hope that helps.
Not strictly SBG, but did Kelvin not get some ex-Strathclyde LAs after merger, but before First moved in? Vaguely remember some making it into KCB Network livery
