I don't deny he has a point - but that doesn't change the fact that he thinks he is better than 'spotters' and that they can be grouped together as 'you people'. That is just plain rudeness (and out of character too).

I do not think I am better than anyone, I ensure that the information I post is accurate and correct, I never assume and as a railway worker you are told in training never to assume. Maybe some of you may think about the subject before voicing opinions as to say it is a suicide (it most likely is) is assuming before the facts are publishished this in turn gets everyone disscussing a subject that may not be justified.

Threads like this seem to spark a touch of ill feeling amongst everyone. I've been involved in suicides both professionally and personally, and accidents professionally and personally and i've never heard such heated debate, never mind read it. For what it's worth, I have sympathy for everyone affected in this incident, though it's none of my business nor anyone else's and I suspect these sympathys wouldn't be gratefully received by the persons involved either.

If it's his hobby and this folks is a forum for people who have an interest in the raillway and not escalators if he wants to let people know what he has travelled on it is up to him I would say, it doesn't interest me what he has travelled on and I hadn't noticed until you pointed it out

My view on the whole suicide issue, personally, I always think how I would feel if I had been the driver of the train, would I be feeling sympathy for the person committing suicide? Tbh, I doubt it would, I think my main feeling would be anger, anger that the person had done this to me, anger that I couldn't do anything to prevent it and anger that a person would do this to themselves. Though I do understand that a person committing suicide will often have taken leave of their senses, I honestly don't think I could forgive that person or sympathise with their actions. I do feel sorry for these people because they've obviously been driven to a terrible extreme, but that doesn't make punishing innocent others on your way out acceptable, imo. Seeing as people are very railway minded here, I presume others see these incidents in a similar light.

This incident doesn't seem like another clear cut suicide case anyway, the location, the time, the police reaction, it just doesn't add up. Wait and see what the BTP have to say.

I’m afraid I have no sympathy whatsoever for the deceased if it was a suicide. My sympathy goes to the poor sod driving the train, those that have to look at it and scrape it up afterwards, and to the family of the deceased. As far as the length of time the line was blocked is concerned, it is simply that whilst the keystones are dealing with that, they can’t be asked to do something else and I’ve seen them cracking their faces whilst telling their Control Room that they are still dealing with the fatality so can’t leave it.

Incidents like this make me think that forward facing cameras should be compulsory on all stock not just new build!
A quick look through the download would show the situation before the incident and aid the investigation, also save the driver some of the more in depth questions.

Thats a bloody good idea, trouble is who pays, the TOCs wont want to, the ROSCOs wont unless the TOCs pay extra so we end up with everyone saying its a good idea but but not wanting to pay up, as all the delay minutes go to Notwork Fail so the TOCs dont care, helps balance the books doesnt it, also if your short staffed and will have to cancel trains you can throw them in the pot as well, seen it done and NR pick up the tab!
