1C84 back on track as an HST diagram after a set was sent to Paddington from St Philips Marsh
Just a quick personal message to say I very much enjoyed your company on the 1303 lunch service today. Superb time amongst great company. Heading back to Pad now on 1A96 16.57 from Ply.Shame about the puddings!

As for customers...i bet the vast majority are oblivious as to what it is they are travelling on as long as it is clean, turns up on time, and gets them to their destination without breaking down.
If anyone gets to ride OC45 tonight, tomorrow - or saturday - enjoy.
I have been aboard OC45 ever since it left Penzance this morning..but i will be leaving it at Paddington. The set hasn't missed a beat all day. Seriously..these trains run better now than when i first started using them in the heyday of the late 80s. None of the drivers i have spoken to today are happy to see them go.

Very sad to see the last couple of days of HSTs on the services that they have been so excellent on.
Credit to GWR for looking after them so well, giving them the overhauls they needed a dozen or so years ago and doing such a good job with the refurbishment at the same time.
Truly an end of an era. If only the DFT had gone with something similar to OBB Railjet rather than the IET. The IET for me isn't a terrible train but it's no HST.

002 and 185 go off lease. 002 is nominated for preservation/NRM, but it is up to Angel as owners when it is disposed of. 093 remains as part of the retained fleet for the sliding door sets.

should be some on the plymouth up and down trains - eg 13.03 departure from Paddington I think - with restaurant car included!

The HST is the last great train to be built by true engineers, who made decisions about how it was built and it was built to be great and save the railways. Kenneth Grange's input into the design just made it such an icon too. Trains now are built by accountants who have gone out to tender and are made to fit a brief which exists around economics and price not making the best thing they can. People may be oblivious now and think new trains are wonderful (because lets face it new is always best in most people eyes) but when they're a few more years old and all the blinds are rattling in the runners as the diesel engines reverberate under the floor and the thing is crawling along stinking of toilets with half the seat cushions hanging off, they might think back and say "it never used to be like this!" Long live the HST castles, Scotrail, and wherever else they survive!

You could not have summed up a Voyager / Meridian better...even my 1st class seat cushion was not properly secured last week.

probably - but vibration of the sort that the OP I'm responding to doesn't help - tho not in respect of seat cushions I grant you.

For me, the Voyagers & Meridians were the low-point for modern trains. I find a 800 superior to both. The 800 only fails in the seat comfort department in standard class.

I think we're getting off topic for this thread.
post 1489 is probably a good eulogy for this thread given we are now in the penultimate day, but I suspect i should not have risen to the point about poorer quality newer stock, however much I agree with it!
To get back on topic - does anyone know if all the diagrams planned for HSTs today are running OK (with HSTs). I hope so, and look forward to HST action on the 18th!

I'm guessing right in saying that 43002 is still sat on Laira waiting to be put on a set?
If the final HST is sold out, then that's going to be a rather snug experience, but good all the same. I suppose it'll be authentic seeing as a lot of the other journeys I did on them were full. I just hope we get the full roster for the full day - they seem to have been failing all too frequently this week. I'd love to see the fallout if the 18:30 was replaced by an IET though!

Hi guys, we want to try and document the performance of all the last day's HST times - Departure and Arrival times, and any passing times from the start of each station stop through intermediate stations and mileposts. We welcome all contributions. Phone apps and GPS devices would be handy for recording speeds past each timing point.
I will be travelling on the 10.45 Paddington to Swansea and return only - so i will be recording that with my Racelogic data logger backed up with a Dual XGPS 160 gps receiver connected via Bluetooth to Harrys Lap timer app - available on android and iPhone.
Obviously the more detail that we can receive the better. I will try to compile a minimum list of timing points for each journey on an Excel Spreadsheet. Passing times for stations need to be backed up by the precise point at the station where the time was taken - I.E to a platform end / subway/ station footbridge, station canopy end etc.
I am also going to try and compile a list of the fastest station to station times achieved since the track layouts at Ladbroke Grove were changed and the current speed limits introduced.
Therefore any 'fast' runs can be compared to this data. Hopefully we will see some enthusiastic running on the day - full power starts - fast stops and flat our running (within the speed limits ) in between.
Anyone wishing to participate - please direct message me through the forum and i will give you my email address for more details.
Video contributions are also welcome - although we don't expect anyone to have enough memory and battery life to record every single station to station section. For each contribution- we will need details of the train number -I.E 1C84 etc, service description - power car numbers and how many coaches - just in case there are some shorter formations. Also if the weather is variable on the day - rain is forecast - then please note where the weather was wet especially useful for station starts and arrivals where adhesion is an issue.
