I’m currently on 158756 on 1B39 17:22 York to Blackpool North. The centre coach has 58712 on the outside but 58708 on the inside at both ends.
Does anyone know if it is 58712 as it should be and the wrong stickers have been put inside or has 58708 been put in this unit and they have changed the outside numbers?
Thanks.

158756's centre coach is 58712 mate, IIRC 58708 is 158754's centre coach.

That's the wrong carriage number for that vehicle mate, it's definitely 58712.

That’s what I thought mate. We have just left Hebden Bridge, when I’m at Preston I will take a picture of the outside number. Thanks for your help mate.

There's certainly a hint that the centre carriage is really 58708 and has changed its identity to 58712, but the interior numbers haven't been changed. It would be interesting to know what identity the centre carriage of 158754 is currently purporting to be.

When DMUs go for refurbishment, do the carriages normally get split and reformed?

Just seen 158754 at Leeds: the centre car is very definitely numbered 58708 externally.
