Trivia-How many working distant semaphores left ? .

I think now we are just looking for odd isolated signal boxes and gate cabins in the central areas. Not sure about Marchwood , Ryde st johns road are fixed ones purpose built around 1967. How about between Ely to Peterborough Or Newcastle to Carlisle ?

Saw a cab video of Marchwood recently ,don't remember seeing moving distants. Think there was a fixed distant board but that was it

All colour light distant across the Fens.

Helsby is all colour light distant signals. There was one at frodaham up until very recently when they’ve upgraded the Halton curve.

& the last GWR lower quadrant signal is just outside Shrewsbury.

Is that all that's left now? There were a couple or three between Shrewsbury and Hereford a few years back.

We've lost two in the Worcester area in recent years - at the aforementioned Norton Junction (a rare but apparently not unique example of a semaphore signal worked from a panel) and at Droitwich, from the Hartlebury direction.

I don't know if they're still there today following the resignalling, but the semaphore distant posts could still be seen at Berwick and Polegate, long after they had been replaced by colour lights further out, as could the post and bracket for the former Stone Cross Junction.

The only ones left on the north wales coast are deganwy up and ty croes down.

MW23R on the marchwood branch just before Veals Lane AHB in the up direction appears to be a working distant. Also my information shows that route 208 Westbury to Yeovil PM may have working distant signals, but I can’t see where they are.

As per the very first post in this thread the only semaphore distant in Scotland is Glenwhilly’s down distant GW1.

Yeovil pen mill has distant boards in the up direction and a rather odd fixed colour light distant in the down. When I say odd I mean it is a two aspect stop signal ( with its own distant ) under the control of Westbury however the upper aspect can only be yellow as no other signal can be seen on the diagram. This signal is slotted by pen mill lever 56.
Marchwood however looks promising !

Just found out that Marchwood has no working distants only distant boards . ( I was kinda hoping it would ). However as an aside can anyone explain why there are stop and distant colour light signals approaching Frost lane LC in the down direction only from Fawley (Numbered MW30 )it is a Auto-half barrier crossing so does not require signal protection.

2 x semaphore signals and 3 x levers from Frodsham signal box have been donated by NR to Castle Park in Frodsham - great idea.
