172002: To Ilford July 2018. To Tyseley 22 Dec 2018.
172006: To Ilford Dec 2018(?). To Tyseley 26 Jan 2019.
172003: To Ilford Jan 2019. To Tyseley 29 Mar 2019.
172008: To Ilford 18 Feb 2019. To Tyseley 5 Apr 2019.
172005: To Ilford 18 Feb 2019. To Tyseley 12 Apr 2019.

The remaining 3 remained in service with LO until:
172001 + 172007: To Ilford 18 Mar 2019 (am).
172004: To Ilford 18 Mar 2019 (pm).
One or more of these may have moved to Tyseley yesterday (27 Apr) but this has yet to be confirmed.

003 and 008 are definitely in the new livery. There may be others.

Thanks for the above making things a lot clearer. So 172002 and 172006 to Tyseley and used for training before transfer to new livery. 172003 and 172008 ready for service on Leamington/Coventry/Nuneaton from May 19th with 172005 likely to be out shopped in new livery and also ready by May 19th. 172001, 004 and 007 to be delivered to Tyseley early May to be in new livery by end of June. 172002 and 172006 into the livery shop end of June and all 172s in new livery by mid August 2019? WMT not my favourite livery but the 172`s look smart in it.

Thanks. That seems to be a good analysis.
The only update, thanks to an earlier post, is that 007 arrived in Tyseley yesterday.

I think that would be highly unlikely as Worcester crews work those trains. From what I am told only Snow Hill drivers etc. have been trained.

Someone maybe able to confirm if differnet

95% of Worcester drivers and Conductors have already been trained on 172/0 as there is booked workings on New Street Hereford from May

They'll need to be on the new Leamington - Nuneaton service from May 20 or the train crew supervisors are in for a headache

The 172/0 will appear on the New Street Hereford services any day now. It should of happened a couple of weeks ago but was blocked by network rail

Training is almost complete at Coventry and Leamington for Drivers and Conductors to make this happen.

Training will not be completed until the beginning of July at the earliest for Cov, and that's if everything goes to plan.

If the 172's aren't ready for May 20, then the Leamington crew cannot work their diagrams.

The 172s are 100% ready for service. Its network rail blocking them because of signal sighting.

If this is referring to the Hereford services I find this rather farcical given the 172/0s have the same cab design as the 170s (in terms of sighting) that cover the route daily.

Thanks for that. Wasn't aware that a New Street diagram was swapping. assumed that the 150 diagram would stay 170 as it has been a few weeks now.

The 150's were all lined up at Tyseley but seem to have vanished today

I completely agree. We at Worcester was told that they were being delayed because of signal sighting and the sectional appendix supports this as it states that 172/0s are not permitted to travel between Kidderminster and Droitwich Spa.

I should of been clearer in my previous message. We've been told that 2 are currently completely ready for service with a third will be ready in a matter of days. I cannot give updates for the rest of the /0s.

10.50 and 14.50 New Street to Hereford. 12.39 and 16.39 Hereford to New Street. 18.20 New Street to Shrub Hill, is the afternoon ex 150 diagram. The 172/0 will be working that uptown the timetable change. Not sure after that. Im lead to believe that one may appear today.

The 172/0 has been deferred yet again, so I was told today, to next week. I think it's a case of itll turn up, when it turns up.

As noted above I thought signal sighting was a TOC issue. Are there other things preventing their use on the routes suggested as well as signal sighting?

An interesting section from the linked report above.
When the new West Midlands Railway timetable is introduced, there will be a total of eight fully refurbished Class 172/0s available to the train operator.
  • Two of these will be used between Leamington Spa and Nuneaton, operating as a two carriage service in each direction.
  • One of the 172/0 units will start operating between Birmingham New Street and Hereford to replace a 33 year old Class 150 unit which is being cascaded to Northern.
  • The remaining units will be used on the Snow Hill lines and to maintain capacity while the operator’s 27 existing Class 172 units undergo a modification programme.

Anyone know what this modification programme for the Class 172s is likely to entail if anything (seat covers perhaps)?

I expect new seat covers, WIFI and charging points will be part of the "modifications" as they are termed.

What are the differences between 172/0 and 172/2 that need a specific training procedure for the 172/0s ??
