Have you ever been in the middle of a bus journey when a particularly significant news event has occurred?

Back in February I was on the 680 route between Filton and Yate and watching a Brexit related Commons Vote on my mobile-which Theresa May got defeated on!

I was also on a National Express journey between Leeds and Birmingham when it was announced the BBC were going to stop showing Neighbours and on a journey between London and Bristol when the news broke about Michael Jackson's death.

We must really be running out of ideas for new threads for someone to think this up...

Perhaps loco-hauled 442s could be used when breaking news emerges ... ?

I was returning from a wedding in Scotland and was on a bus between Huddersfield and Halifax when I overheard a girl looking at her phone and talking loudly to her friend:

"Apparently someone's flown a plane into the World Trade Centre"
"And Darren wants to sleep with me".

This is a topic regarding buses/coaches so I fail to see where trains come into it?

I keep expecting someone to suggest that it just has to still be April 1st .......

Is there anything much more weird that we can usefully discuss or is it just me.

Was on the bus back from Stafford beer festival to Newcastle under Lyme when Michael Jackson died.
On the shuttle bus from Leeds festival to York station in 2006 the first piece of news I heard was that Pluto is no longer a planet. For some reason that sticks with me.

'Breaking news' was not an understood concept then, but during IRA bombings in London in the 1970s I was on a 73 bus in Oxford Street that was ordered to stop and turn its engine off. I believe it was still there an hour or so later when a very unfortunate bomb disposal man lost his life attempting to defuse the bomb left in a Wimpy Bar. The driver remained with his bus during the whole incident, I believe. Sorry to de-trivialise, but sometimes ...

Well, you've been on one journey when a significant news event occurred. The other two examples are off-topic. <D

Jings! I’m not sure I could remember where I’ve been, or what I’ve been doing every time that has happened! :D:D:D

For the record I was in Wetherspoons the second time her deal was rejected, in the staff break out area at work the third time and in Ikea when MPs voted to reject leaving without a deal!

Also remember catching the bus home around 2230 on June 8th 2017 after the general election had finished and the exit polls had announced Theresa May had lost her majority. A few drivers and a couple of passengers were chatting about it in Bristol Bus Station when I arrived and all seemed really cheerful about it.
