That is a powercar, not a train. Apologies though if you were just stating that it was your favourite powercar rather than trying to clarify what the OP meant.

Sorry about that

I just refered to them as trains becuase some call them power cars while other call them locomotives and other multiple units.

Strip the paint off and remove the numbers they all look the same, pointless post yet again

Actually if you read his reply to the question in the second or third post, he said:

And to answer your question, I have a couple of favourites, but I'd narrow it down to Arriva XC or EMT.

Flying Bannanas, origonal is best

And this one just because it has that nickname!

253041 (I think that was the set). It was regularly loco-hauled when there was a stock shortage in blue/grey days, with ADB975325 providing ETS.

I saw one today, I think it was 43044, still in Midland Mainline livery but with one dark blue cab door (it looked like FGW blue).
Reminded me of an old Cortina with a door dragged out of a scrapyard

Favourite what? Route? Livery? Powercar?
The OP tried to post this topic yesterday (along with the other two topics in General Discussion). I politely asked him to re-post it under Traction & rolling stock with a more substantial post and defining what question he is actually asking. Obviously, he didn't, he re-posted the same totally undefined question, and didn't even add anything to the topic. :|

As for my favourite HST, although I'm not sure what question is being asked I'll say any of the ones currently in service for Grand Central, for obvious reasons ;)

If he is really just asking for a favourite livery then I'll have to say InterCity swallow livery.

My favourite power car is any that still have the original headlight covers on (don't some ex-MML ones still have these, 43166 certainly did a while ago), they look far better to the current ones that make the front of the power car look like an alien with four eyes.

First Great Western 2007+

First Great Western ' Barbie'

First Great Western Green / Gold ' Fag Packet'

Midland Mainline ' Ocean Blue'

Virgins so called and unfortunatly not applied, 'Challenger'

And Intercity Swallow livery.

Theres my favourte HST Liveries, with the FGW 2007+ Livery on top - A livery that looks smart weather its clean or dirty, looks nice what ever the weather, and is simple yet smart - almost in a BR style way, with the loco in one colour and the rolling stock sharing the same colour, albiet with the Grey around the window frames vs the all over blue with 'Dynamic Lines' vinyls...

My Worst on the other hand, has to be

National Express East Coast

The fortunatly very short lived Cotswold Rail Silver & Hornby Scemes...

EMT

And Arriva Cross Country

NX might have come up with a 'smart and modern livery' but anything that is painted largley in light colours such as white/silver just gets ruined when the dirt gets picked up...and then youve got to think of where abouts the exhuast ports are...

Yep, i have seen a nice and shiny NX hst in Kings X with a nice oil stain dripping down from the cantrail area...

EMT? The main thing about that livery that i really dont like, is the idea of painting the cab roof to look simular to the 222s...And again...its that oh so wonderfull idea of painting a PC in a lighter colour again...

As for XC, if it had been the original Silver/Charcoal/Pink Colours, then perhaps i wouldnt mind it so much, but that maroon........ yuck :x

My favourite would be the original MML livery, the green and orange one, followed by 'Swallow' livery.

Which power car was given the orange and grey front end on the 'swallow' livery?

very true, the buffer ones look different to the normal ones, and the NMT ones have that err thing under the window (scott help me out here whats it called again)

I am sure the HSTs with buffers fitted were used as DVTs when there was not one avalible theres an exsample on youtube with a Class 91 with a HST in place of the DVT :).

The 91's were delivered before the Mk4's. A number of HST power cars and HST BSO's were buffer fitted to allow opperation with the 91's. The origonal intention was that traction power would be supplied by the 91 and train supply by the 43 which would run at idle. Due to problems the 43 was adapted to provide some traction power. The whole train was controlled from the leading loco. When the Mk4's were delivered the equipment was removed from the HST but the buffers remained and the power cars were transferred to the cross country routes. Reason for transferring to cross country was that the power cars could easily be coupled to locos if requiered. Not sure when the buffers were removed from the trailer cars.
