Hello all,

If say I purchased a day travel card to London (from Ipswich) via NXEA, would this also be valid on any or most of the London Overground routes on the NLL or do I need a seperate travel card for overground?

I remeber buyng a Travelcard within Zones 1-6 and it was perfectly valid when the ticket inspector checked it so I think it will be ok.

All day travelcards from Ipswich to London zones 1-6 are route any permitted, so yes they would be valid on all rail services within the zones, with the exception of the Heathrow BR branch and St Pancras to Stratford on the high speed.
One similar question I have is are operator specific out-boundary travelcards operator specific only between the origin station and boundary zone 6, then interavailable within the zones, or are they fully operator specific throughout there validity.

A Travelcard is valid on all train services of all operators within the Zones, which your ticket entitles you to travel on, as shown on the map below

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/oyster-rail-services-map.pdf

The only exceptions are:

Heathrow Express
Heathrow Connect between Hayes & Harlington - Heathrow
High Speed 1 Pancras-Stratford International

So yes it would be valid on all London Overground services within the Zones paid for.

Also as mentioned if you buy a Day Travelcard from outside London i.e. Birmingham New Street - London Zones 1-6 down the West Coast Mainline, it includes one return journey between New Street - Euston, thus if desired one Return Journey on London Overground between Watford Junction-Harrow [Edit:Hatchend] on London Overground.

Zones 1-9+Watford Junction is the only Travelcard which allows unlimited travel between Watford-Harrow [Edit: Watford-Hatchend].

Indeed, although the boundary is actually Hatch End, slighty north of Harrow.

All Travelcards are valid on all available services within the Zones, on all applicable buses, trams, trains, DLR and tubes (including the so-called "tubes" that aren't really tubes at all of course!) It's perfectly valid to use a Brighton to All Zones FCC Only on Southern between East Croydon and Victoria for example.
I thought beyond Harrow and Wealdstone on the Watford branch, the travelcard is not valid and extra needs to be paid.

Not that you'd want to go there.. ;)
It's Hatch End, and it's not a branch, it's the West Coast Main Line (WCML). If you say "the Watford branch" people would assume you are talking about the Met! A Boundary Zone 6 to Watford Jn is £3.50 CDR.

It's the Watford Junction "branch" of London Overground AFAICS. If anyone, in a discussion about London Overground, thinks I'm talking about the Met line they should check a map.

At which point they'd say "Yes, Watford is on the Met ;)"

Believe me if you went to Harrow, or indeed anywhere in London, talking about the Watford branch they would think you are talking about the Met. I've never heard anyone describe Watford Junction as being any sort of branch line. People don't consider it to be some sort of branch, they look at it as being on the main line. People can't stand the slow trains and go for the fast trains where possible. Yes, they'd do HRW to WFJ on a stopper as that's not too bad, but if you see the number of people getting the fasts compared to the slows at Harrow, I don't think anyone gets the slows all the way to London, and from Watford you'd have to be insane.

In fact, if 2 London trains pull alongside at Harrow-on-the-Hill, you'll see loads of people rush from the 'slow' to the 'fast', even though there's not much difference on that route.

Although I suppose you could be pedantic and say its the Watford DC lines - not the West Coast Mainline - it merely runs along side it!
