Again can't do much here other than board the 1358 Alasdair MacDonald service W8 to Stornoway (Bus Station), arriving there at 1436 on Saturday afternoon.

Thank god for that.

We then board the 1815 D + E Coaches service 813 to Braemore (Junction), arriving there at 1833 on Saturday evening.

Not wishing to return on the bus we just arrived on, we're relieved to find the 18:40 Westerbus service 700 promptly roll up, which we hop on and take as far as Gairloch, at Old Inn Road End, arriving at 20:05 Saturday evening.

We understandably are now stranded until Monday morning, where we board the 0745 Westerbus service 700 to Dingwall (Council Buildings), arriving there at 1000 on Monday morning.

It’s almost as barren as Kildonan here, but fortunately the next train is in 20 minutes so we board the 17:30 ScotRail service 2H64 back down the line a couple of stops to Helmsdale, arriving at 17:44 Monday afternoon.

That's why I took us to Kinbrace, as that was the last place we could catch the return working down to Inverness, however we now remain stranded in this equally isolated place

We have a rather large wait here for the 2108 Abellio ScotRail service 2H65 which I think we'd be best to take as far as the terminus of Wick, arriving there at 2252 on Monday afternoon.

Earlier moves available now.

I thought there were a couple of buses on the A9 that left sooner? Could be mistaken though!

You're right, there are. I certainly wasn't expecting there to be!

Instead, we take the eight minute walk to the petrol station, where we board the 1854 Stagecoach North Scotland service X98 to Tain (Post Office), arriving there at 1956 on Monday evening.

We’ve missed the trains in both directions and the 19:58 bus to Inverness leaves as we arrive, so it looks like we’re going to have to get some dinner whilst we wait for the 21:58 Stagecoach Highlands service 25 to Invergordon, outside ATS Garage, arriving at 21:59 Monday evening.

Do correct me if I’ve missed anything that leaves sooner...it’s quite hard to tell!

There’s just one service left running now so we leave the station and walk to the station road bus stop for the 00:19 Stagecoach Highlands service 28A to Dingwall, outside Royal Hotel, arriving at 00:26 early Tuesday morning.

I think our time in Scotland is well and truly time to come to an end now, and we are relieved to board the 0755 Virgin Trains East Coast service 1E13 to London Kings Cross, arriving there at 1547 on Tuesday afternoon.

WHAT - you didn’t fancy the 08:10 bus to Ullapool ;)

Having treated ourselves to first class on that very enjoyable journey, we now decide to quickly leave the pollution of the capital and head north on the 16:27 Grand Central service 1D81 to Mirfield, arriving at 18:42 Tuesday evening.

No. I enjoy visiting, genuinely, but it doesn't half drag on sometimes. I remember once we were stuck on the islands for almost two weeks!

We then exit the station and take the five minute walk to the bus stops on Huddersfield Road, where we board the 1912 Arriva Yorkshire Max service 203 to Leeds (Boar Lane, Stop T2), arriving there at 2007 on Tuesday evening.

Try doing it IRL.... The combination of brilliant Highland Scenery and waiting for 3 hours in freezing (-7 it was for me) conditions is an interesting one.

We walk into the adjacent station to board the 20:48 TransPennine Express service to Howden, arriving there at 21:24 on a Tuesday.

Dismissing the last train of the day a mere one stop to Goole, we take advantage of the overnight break of journey rule and return in the morning for the 0610 Northern service 2C58 to Meadowhall, arriving there at 0706 on Wednesday morning.

From the adjacent bus station we board the 07:24 First South Yorkshire service 3 to Nether Edge, opposite Chestnut Court, arriving at 08:24 Wednesday morning.
We then stroll down the street to the Union Road bus stop before parking our nether edges on the 08:33 Sheffield Community Transport route 10 bus service - that is, until we reach Sheffield (Charles Street CS4) where we disembark at 09:16 on Wednesday morning.

Unfortunately, we can no longer catch the 505, so it's either a seven-hour flight or a 45-minute drive. ;)

It's as if they knew nothing about Sheffield! It's all not quite legitimate...

After a cracking day out in the Peak District, we board the 16:13 Hulleys of Baslow route 273 bus service to Sheffield (Showroom Cinema SS2), arriving there at 16:49 on Wednesday afternoon.
