What are the plans for EMT HST's regarding Disability Legislation, Toilets etc etc, I assume that there are no plans to convert them for EMT to use?
Are they due to finish in December 2020, if so what will they be replaced with?

This has been discussed in other threads, but the current position seems to be:

The government has made no announcement on what will happen after December 2019 - that's the cut of date for the PRM (Persons of Reduced Mobility) implementation, not 2020.
There is insufficent time to modify the existing stock.
There is no indication of any other suitable stock being available.

As far as we know there are only two options:
Cancel a large number of EMT services
or
A temporary derogation.

Most people on this board seem to think the first of these options will be unacceptable so we are *assuming* a derogation is likely.
However, we are in the dark until the government makes an announcement, unless there is a good-quality information leak.

This is my understanding of the situation from following discussions on this forum; there may be developments I'm not aware of.

I'm thinking as there are probably other suitable threads the mods may want to close this one.

Well if it does get closed down I better get my thanks in quickly duffield.
There is just so much going on with Traction and Rolling stock throughout the UK these days it is very difficult to keep pace with things.

I'm finding it difficult to find anything concrete on the rolling stock that will be used for Corby from December 2020. Presumably this new stock will mean some of the 222s will free up to run HST duties, it seems like this wouldn't scratch the surface on the number of replacement units needed?

Looks like some modifications will be done, but not the full fat XC/ScotRail/GWR .

Corby electrification will only free up 2-3 Cl222, ie 12-15 vehicles, whereas EMT operates something like 13 8-car and 3 6-car HSTs at the moment.

The whole debacle about EMTs compliance with the 2020 deadline (by upgrade or replacement of the HST fleet) contains an important lesson: Doing nothing is *always* an option

Government has asked East Midlands Trains to undertake a procurement process on its behalf, regarding modification of High Speed Trains to meet the Passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRM) accessibility standards deadline of January 1 2020.

However, this is not expected to include automatic doors, and EMT understands that the Department for Transport continues to expect the next East Midlands franchise to use new trains.

The request was revealed in a letter from EMT Managing Director Jake Kelly to Lilian Greenwood MP, dated March 14.

In the letter, Kelly highlights that the current EMT deal is expected to end in August with a new franchise taking over. He states that the DfT “has asked us to undertake on their behalf a tender process and commence a programme which works towards addressing some of the HST fleets’ PRM non-compliance”.

He added that the enhancements would likely include making them more accessible for passengers, although he doesn’t say how.

Kelly also wrote that as part of the tender process, EMT has included an option to install sewage tanks (controlled emission toilets). But the work does not include the sliding doors because “these are not a specific requirement of PRM”. He said EMT expects to receive bids for the tender soon.

Work is needed on the HSTs following a change in heart from Government over electrification of the Midland Main Line north of Kettering and Corby.

In July 2017, Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling confirmed that bi-mode trains would be ordered and that wires would not be erected. He declared that these new trains must be introduced from April 30 2022. This decision created a shortfall in stock for EMT because the HSTs did not meet the PRM regulations.

I'm not sure if there's a thread but talking of hellfire, the train reported on fire at Leicester was an HST. I don't know why that was my almost first instinct. Might be that the fumes from those Paxman engines do have a sort of steam smell to them.

Yes there is a thread for it. Who knows how it happened but very unlike a VP185 to go up in smoke. Now an MTU yes very possible.
