1984, so probably not the latest main line closure, but does this count as the longest section of modern 25kV electrified line to be completely closed and dismantled?
(Obviously many miles of OHLE were removed between Sheffield/Woodhead/Hadfield, but that was 1500V DC)

did I hear there are moves to re-open it again?

It closed after a derailment and they could not justify the cost of reinstatement

Debatable whether it counts as a main line, being very short and only a stone's throw from the station it could be considered as an extended freight loop. There can't be many 25kV passenger lines that have closed - I can only think of Balloch Pier and Tilbury Riverside.

It was loooked at in SRA days , especially when there was a glut of Scottish / imported coal , - I very much doubt it. The land was protected from development , and may still be.

440 yards of the Morecambe branch when they made a new station and made the old one into a pub. 1994

Late 1980's Ilkley - train shed converted to retail, rail line truncated by 40 yards.

Glasgow High Street to Bridgeton terminus, possibly the longest such abandonment. The current Bridgeton station is on a different line. Ironic that the long established North Clyde service pattern was Bridgeton to Balloch, which lost its end stations at both ends.

Good point - not surprising if it closed when Dalmarnock opened about a hundred yards away. Altrincham was also a 25kV line that ceased to be a railway, but almost all of it is still open as Metrolink.
