Hi. If someone is travelling on a off-peak return on a route that shows 'No restrictions' or at the weekend when the same applies can they break their journey on both outward and return journeys? (Sometimes alight one station early and sometimes board for return journey at an intermediate station.) Cheers - Andy

Restrictions on break of journey will depend entirely on the ticket in question, but have no correlation to any time restrictions. There are very few, if any, tickets with break of journey restrictions on the return leg.
Which particular ticket do you have in mind?

Is this one of those "broken" ones where there is no actual restriction code?
Or is it either 8A or 3A, which are the two main restriction codes used for "unrestricted SVRs"? 8A bars break of journey in both directions (it is not entirely clear if this is deliberate or a mistake, but that's definitely what it says), 3A bars it on the outward only. So far as I am aware, 8A is the only restriction code that, either deliberately or accidentally, bars break of journey on the return portion of any walk-up fare other than "special" ones like SailRail. It used to be banned on the return on some heavily restricted Super Off Peaks years ago (LM liked this) but it hasn't been the case for years.
Edit: Sorry, not 3A, 3A has a morning restriction. There was another one, though, I forget what it was.
On a ticket that does have a weekday restriction, whether the BoJ restriction applies will depend on where it is in the restriction. Most have it in the notes which means it applies all the time, but there's the odd one that has it in the "applies Monday-Friday" bit in which case that would apply Monday-Friday only.
I would suggest that nationalrail.co.uk/<restriction code> is as definitive a check as you can do on this.

Probably best if I give more detail. My daughter regularly travels home from Bristol Parkway/Temple Meads to Chester using an SOR Anytime Return via Hereford. The route linked shows 'No restrictions'. A similar ticket to Flint is the same price and has similar restrictions. It is mostly more convenient to collect her from Flint (peak time Fri evening in Chester) and sometimes convenient to leave from Chester on Sunday afternoon (shopping with bank of Mum on way home). I want to tell her to always get a ticket to Flint and then decide on the day whether to get off in Chester or leave from Chester. Will this work with these tickets restrictions? An Anytime Return has no restrictions including no break of journey restrictions. If you mean that, and not an Off Peak Return, then yes, this is legitimate.
