Im looking to do a 7 day 1st Class ALR in the Autumn, and was looking to bash new stock, Caledonian sleeper Mk 5’s, which know the diagrams of already, 745 intercity Stadler as the others don’t have first class, TPE various Nova’s, LNER Azumas and any others I have missed out

Will the new stock be up and running reasonably by the autumn, and have multiple diagrams by then or will it be winter/mew year by the time they are running properly? Thanks for any gen available.

Hard to say on the Azumas. Trials on the ECML began over two years ago, yet they havent entered service yet

Cambsy, firstly I hope you get to do your ALR and enjoy. Other than the peak time restrictions out of London, it's a great feeling just being able to jump on any train.

I did several last year and I used my ALR's for track bashing but any new stock was a bonus and dare I say it, pacers.

Thanks PeterY, I have done several 1st class 7 day ALR, they are great, I get round the restrictions by having shower and chilling in the Virgin first class lounge at Euston then move on for post 10am train.

Not had the pleasure of doing an ALR (and I'm hugely envious...) but whenever my mate and I do multi-day rovers, we just tend to stay out later and start later. The morning restrictions aren't a huge issue - it's only an issue when they add evening restrictions, such as the one on the West Yorkshire Day Rover, which renders it pretty much useless for enthusiasts. The morning restrictions wouldn't put me off an ALR at all.

To answer the OP's original query - the only stock on that list which I think is 100% confirmed to be in service by autumn are the LNER Azuma's - first diagram starts in May. How many are running is a different question though...

I would be surprised if there weren't at least some mk5 diagrams by then, both on CS & TPE, but I'd expect a transition period and you may have to be flexible with your plans.

LNER Azumas are due into service mid-May, although only on Leeds/Hull routes initially.
