I am sure that I am not the only one who finds the announcements on Birmingham New Street too loud. You just have to stop talking to your companion when the announcements are made.

This got really unbearable yesterday evening when they announced two trains at the same time. The Leamington train from platform 1 and the Liverpool train from platform 2. All you could hear was the announcement of the train calling at Smethwick Galton Bridge, Birmingham International, Wolverhampton, Coventry, Penkridge, Leamington Spa, Stafford, Crewe......

If it had not been for engineering work that train would finally have got to Liverpool, Bournmouth

There are ambient noise sensors which increase the volume of the announcements if the ambient noise rises, so if a train is idling in the platform the announcements will be louder.

The PA system is also an Emergency Evacuation System and the sound levels and audibility requirements have to meet specific requirements for this as well.

Perhaps they should sample whispering Ted Lowe and use that in the announcements.

The curse of the sensitively eared ruk correspondent strikes again!

At present I don't have sensitive hearing, I have impaired hearing and need an appointment with the nurse at my GP's surgery to remove an accumulation of wax. I am having difficulty using the telephone.

OT, but have you tried gently warmed olive oil? Worked for me, most GPs advise it now rather than syringing which can cause damage.

I just wish they wouldn't have multiple announcements of "See It, Say It, Sorted," running at the same time, one slightly behind the other, while a train announcement is also being made...
