Is it really too tricky to find the East Coast website? The amended timetable for the next few days is on it.

Well sorry, I looked and didn't see it...

Geez... Is everyone so abrupt with you on this site? Does everyone get ridiculed here like that?

=/

Well, to ask another question... Is the travelling chef etc still on services it says in the normal timetable going to be there?

Apologies. Saying "I have been trying to find it everywhere" sounded (to me) like laziness as it is published on the website of the very company you are asking about - it is the first place most people would look surely. And it is also listed on the National Rail website which is where most people would look second.

No idea about services on board but I don't see any reason why they would be different to normal as a whole - maybe service specific changes due to staff issues.

Thankyou =)

I knew the site, I just didn't know where to check... When I saw the calendar, I assumed that blue meant "ok" days, and red were engineering works days. And, it doesn't actually say that it's the amended timetable cos of the weather there either =/

After you click the date it states:

Due to the adverse weather conditions trains are subject to short notice cancellations and delays. East Coast is running a revised timetable today. Please check train times before travelling

Please click here for the latest information and revised timetable.

Most folk are too lazy to check themselves..then give staff grief..seems they have to be spoon fed everything.Cant read timetables...but can calculate lottery odds/betting/bingo easily...why is that eh?

Praise indeed for LM, had problems due to Live Departures, TRUST and the CIS not showing the London bound services today as they were in the system as they were shown as not stopping although the Stevenage bound services were done okay.

Still, because of the wrong timings on the London bound service on the CIS screens, control thought some (not all) might go a minute or two early and asked if I could hold them to right time.

Well, me being keen to renew my dispatching knowledge (We use CD/RA, as opposed to some Thameslink stations where a White Bat and Green Flag are used) and seeing as I knew my manager was about, decided to dispatch all trains from Platform 1 which the drivers usually look back and self dispatch.

Rather then just play it easy and just say right off you go, especially when you don't know who's about.

Was inspired by Network Rail in the Brighton area who are always keen to run ghost trains and who have a funny sense of humour with one train's head code looking like SMEG!

Im yet to see you dispatch...are you on permanent nights or something?

I wish, No, it's probably because when I'm working a shift, you might be elsewhere ie on the mainline or at home.

Although because of the driver's knowledge, I mainly just see Hitchin and Kings Cross drivers but do have the odd Peterborough and Cambridge drivers work a limited number of services so presume I'm going to see you on the loop sooner then later!

I did give some drivers a shock a few months ago when I was dispatching at Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage as I'm usually found at Hertford.

A lot of people in London may think we just got a tiny splattering of snow today, but when I woke up - Hertfordshire seemed to have been hit by almost as much show as last week (not quite, but certainly a lot more significant than the Met Office suggested).

Anyway, the trains were running on FCC (GN) perfectly and they seem to be okay even now (from a quick check). I don't know about TL, but that doesn't seem to run in normal weather anymore.

I wonder what tonight will be like? Snow timetable for tomorrow again?!

SWT seemed to think yet again that they could run a normal service, I saw a 455 combust quite nicely this morning in Guildford, but the service was completely FUBAR'd from the outset.

South of the river we had quite a lot of snow. I have to say considering the conditions Southern did very well yet again. Most trains running and not that late but impressively lots of communication. Their staff deserve a medal or at least a well done.

Overground was not so good - didn't see much Snow in London but the service was suspended when I reached Highbury - least it was working well this evening so they fixed the problem

FCC - Thameslink - don't think they can be classified as running a train service south of London. Sorry guys if you work for them but to me it is a pretty poor show! I would though blame the managers - their planning of service must be pretty awful to get in the state they are in.

Overground was not so good - didn't see much Snow in London but the service was suspended when I reached Highbury - least it was working well this evening so they fixed the problem.

The problem with the overground was not the snow, but the poor design of the 378 shoe collection on the third rail. In all 4 class 378s failed before the service could get running, One near Bushey (up), one near Watford High Street (up) which caused the dc service to be suspened between Harrow and Watford, one at Acton Central (down) and one at South Acton (up) this then caused the Willesden to Richmond section being suspended. One then failed a little later on the incline between Willesden Low Level and Willesden High Level. As this was a common factor the service between Camden Road & Stratford and Willesden Junction to Clapham Junction had to be suspended. The 378s were giving problems even at Camden Road causing major delays to what little service there was.

I was fortunate enough to have a 35 year old unit to keep the service running, the units were so bad that they are started to take them out of service and replace them with 313s.

The problem is all new build rolling stock. If the weather is a little to hot or little bit wet or with a little bit of snow, the units on board computers tell the train management system to shut down. On third rail if class 378 shoe does not pick up the full 650/750 at point the computer will shut the units down. I was told by a member of bombardier that if the power also falls to below 400volts dc the computer will tell the driver to shut the unit down and reboot.

All modern trains it would appear are only designed to operate in perfect weather conditions, something the uk doesnt have.

It may be diesel rather than third rail, but the 175 doesn't seem to be impervious to snow either. Yesterday morning, the first (~0400) service from Crewe to Cardiff arrived on time at about 0730 despite the snowfall, but was timetabled to sit there for twenty minutes or so until continuing to Milford Haven. Unsurprisingly, it didn't move, despite two attempted reboots. A further twenty minutes later, I crossed the platform to get on a HST instead. At least you can fix those with a hammer when you need to!

(For a bloke with a degree in Computing and Electronics, I'm one heck of a luddite.)
