For someone who hates Pacers, I'm beginning to think you are actually obsessed with them.

Well I voted for the 141 because of the way they would rock back and forward on the suspension when they stopped due to the fact they originally had one damper centrally placed on the pedestal as apposed to the 2 shown in the picture which were fitted when they were rebuilt.
And somebody has got too

Just think if these were still in service there would be less overcrowding, but then some people have made it clear they would rather walk than catch a pacer .

tell you what imagine trying to run the service with NO pacers and see how far you get, they might not be the best but at least we have them, when the new stuff is built would you like to scrap the same number of pacers at least then you will be able to stand in comfort , or use them ADDITIONAL to the pacers so at least you would get a seat ;)!

oooh arnt 142s just the best trains ever!

Like it or not, the passenger saloon stayed in tact.

Maybe I should find some pictures of other types of train after a crash and roll my eyes at them?

How can you use the word love when talking about a train? Pacers are a bag of sh*t, always have been and always will be, I am amazed that companies still use them. Your choice in the poll? Is there enough difference to prefer one or the other?

Never been on one. However, from what I know about the lot, they seem to be a stop gap that turned into a permanent solution. I guess ideally a load more 15x (mainly 150s, and maybe a properly designed single-car version?) would have been built.

The number of cars does, also, confuse things slightly. After all, a three car class 144 is still only 5m longer than a two car 150, and is a little shorter than a two car 155, 156 or 158.

Theres no such thing as a stop gap on the railway - afterall, can anybody actually think of one which didn't become permanent lol.

My favourite's probably the one that turned up after a 40 minute wait in the snow at Cottingley yesterday evening.

And I also like 143615 a lot more now

TOCs are always complaining of overcrowding

My favs I think have to be 144s as they seem to be fitted out properly with nice seats, be that a bit dusty and I travel on them quite a bit, them and 155s and 158s

You can probably guess which I option I chose...

If I had to be decisive though, the 143s would win on the grounds of being the first kind I used.

I'm a 142 man, myself...Mainly because my Pacer coverage so far - Sadly - Extends to three 142's and nothing else. :(

That, and the thought of taking a 142 - With it's undamped coil-spring suspension - For a quick jolly up the WCML at a steady 500mph* seems really appealing in my view...:D<D
* Aye...That's definitely 500mph. Take the passenger seating out and stick 2x Valentas in there, and it'd be more than possible... <D

One of the ones that's been written off.

(Though I will concede that they've played a useful role in certain limited respects, and that the main problem with them has been them getting used inappropriately.)

Class 37s on the North Wales coast were a stop gap that (sadly) didn't become permanent.

Tried to drive to work this morning, and had hideous traffic problems even though I left an hour earlier than usual. It's back to the lovely pacers tomorrow I think!

Yes, come to think of it, I suppose the 308's were a stopgap for Yorkshire - albeit a 30 year old one

Anyway, 144s romping ahead in the poll, ahead even of the 'I hate them all' naysayers!

Two votes isn't exactly "romping ahead", is it? Still, it does show that, with time, things can improve. I mean, as much as I hate to admit it, 143s are better than some trains. Like 142s for example!

Come on, people; vote "HATE"!

144s or 143s are arguably the best ones, the body is much better designed and built then the 142s, but thats the only thing that sets them apart. I voted for 144s, purely because they are northerners like myself. The third car in some doesn't come into it, that is purely there due to the generosity of WYPTE.

Well, it's 7 votes ahead of the next best now (not including the 'I hate them all category'), so it's hats off to Alexander and Barclay for producing the best of the bunch!

Hate them all! But as said in another thread there good for what there used for.

Although I think that Class 140 looks familiar to the Ex-LMS Class 502 (I think its that?).
