Well, its a few months in so wondered what changes, if any, there have been since the running of Nat Ex East Coast passed to East Coast. Any improvements?

I know, he wants to know how they are doing, I replied with a few delays ect ;)

Which served no real purpose in this thread but rather should have been posted in this thread: http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=29376

Back to answer what the OP was actually asking, I think it's slowly improving and given time although will never be good enough for the GNER purists will be good enough to provide decent service.

Having said that, I have heard that from numerous sources IF East Coast excel at running the franchise then there is a good chance of it staying in government hands but only with a change of government will this happen as there's some legislation which will needed to be reversed in order for this to happen.

Mrs O gets the general feeling that the staff are relaxing a bit, and becoming less glum

IMO, a lot of work remains required to undo the mess that National Express made of the franchise, and this will obviously take time.

However, it is good to see that changes are, slowly, being made - similar to Oswyntail I swear I've seen at least two members of staff smile recently.

This week apart, they have been much improved. You can certainly tell that the staff are much happier but the standards of the service is definately improving.

As for this week I am sure that national express and GNER would have both struggled. I travelled on the 0700 Edinburgh - Kings Cross service yesterday, most delay minutes were down to network rail issues. I must admit it was strange going through level crossing with the barriers frozen in the up position at 5mph!

FC would have nice fluffy snow for the whole journey, SC would have the partially melted and now icy stuff.

I had the exactly the same thing at Bale this morning on the 1S03, staff were great in keeping us informed etc etc. EC have certainly turned up a gear on-board ;)

Are you joking? XC, dirty overcrowded trains with no staff/trolley to be seen and never on time

Got to agree about the lack of trolley. Bristol - Leeds is a long way without a cuppa, and its a long walk to the buffet.

But there is no buffet now!

with a buffet, If the trains busy, you can still try to get through, whereas with a trolley your basically stuffed

I was on a HST, simly Bristol - Leeds on a voyager, buffet or not would be to much!

Which doesn't have a buffet either ;) I was going to pick you up on your earlier post however, the most you are going to have to walk to the buffet on any train in the UK is 6 coaches, surely that isn't that bad (maximum 3 on a Voyager)

Its a long way to carry some hot drinks! I didn't realise they'd got rid of the buffet car on HSTs, that is a bit cr@p.

Really? I must have mis-remembered that one. So what has happened to the spare Mk 3 buffets that there should be?

On the subject of Cross Country i must admit my infrequent journeys on the Bristol-Derby section have always had a trolley passing through but how i miss Virgins shop. If there is any litter then the cleaners have come through before New St. There are bins & the great british public need better training on this front. My more frequent XC trips are on the Ely-Brum route where it is a huge improvement on CT. Catering, cleanliness & overall reliability are in a different league.
