Who organises formations on Chiltern?

Nice bit of planning...today the 15.34 down dep from Wembley stadium after a game that attracted 75k+ they thought it ok to put on a 3 car unit!

Do these people actually understand their job,or do they just pick the next train out of a hat.

And The 11.12 up ( 6 mins late at South ruislip) had 5 on but it was wedged to the point of uncomfortable.
DONT say wait for the next one it is a 30 min service

Shame really as i thought Chiltern was a well run railway. I suppose thats what happen when its bring your kid to work day and let them take over

You also ignore the severe disruption this morning with the fatality between Leamington and Banbury. No doubt Chiltern was still recovering from the inevitable disruption with Silver Sets and Clubmen trapped in the West Midlands.

Carriages can't just me magic-ed out of thin air, and given the fatality earlier, the longer sets such as the MK3s and any spare capacity they would have, would have been displaced and/or stuck on the wrong side.

I *would* say go get the nearby Jubilee, Metropolitain or Bakerloo lines, that take you to basically the same part of London and upon which capacity is much more plentiful

Agreed. Former CRCL Train Planner myself and every effort certainly goes in to cover, not just Wembley event days, but Global Gathering, etc.

I take it you've never left Wembley after a big event? The tube is a nightmare.

Chiltern do normally timetable additional services and are semi-good at crowd control. It is the quickest way into town after an event.

Chiltern do try hard with providing as much capacity during event days at Wembley but I think it's just the franchise itself where a lot of their fleet is 2 or 3 car trains which hopefully will be made longer next franchise fingers crossed.

My experience was of a busy, but a well-organised queueing system. Just be realistic and patient and don't expect to get on the first train nor have a seat.

Yep, it’s about 1000 people a minute. With a full stadium, around 50,000 head for Wembley Park, so if you’re at at the back of the queue you may have to wait for nearly an hour. However if you are at the front of the queue, no wait at all.

The trouble is that despite huge crowds, some they think they should always be at the front. You can’t have 50,000 people all at the front of the queue. I always use Wembley Park, and always get a seat if I go to the back of the train and let one train go. Just allow plenty of time.

By the way, sampled the crowd control at Falmer yesterday for a Brighton home game. All worked well from what I saw, but I arrived around 14.00 and got away smartly afterwards, and that’s just 30,000 capacity. Friendly stewards and the much maligned Southern Railway performed spot on.

An hour waiting in a slow moving queue with opposing groups of footy fans is my nightmare. It is policed and managed well, it's the numbers that take the time and can take an hour to get on a train if you're last to join the line.

Chiltern are the better option and the ride is much shorter if you need to stand.

Oh dear. what a silly post. Perhaps, if you think you could do a better job you could apply to become a train planner. They are always looking for people. Personally, based on this posting, I don't think you have the right attitude but you never know.

Preston Road is only a 15 minute walk from Wembley Park. If the queues are hideous then taking a wander up there isn't a bad idea.

The good thing about Preston Road is that 1] you can just carry on walking after weighing up the queues at Wembley Park and 2] it's not as obvious an alternative destination to people who don't know the area (and Wembley attracts more out of towners than most) as it's not got the word Wembley in its name.

In my experience the queues for Wembley Park preclude just carrying on walking! By the time you are in a position to do so, you will be quicker getting on a train at Wembley Park.

There is, of course, and easy solution. UBER ! I have no idea why people punish themselves and put themselves through such misery all the time. 75k people and many of those crushing themselves onto public transport :/

Have you tried to get an Uber after an event and tried to escape the traffic in the area?

Preston Road is a hilly walk however so if you are willing to do that, or get the 223 bus from Wembley Park it is worth doing.
