Going to London on Friday and i will be giving Liverpool Street another try as last time i couldnt do it despite going to station reception.

I imagine people would of had problems at this station. but has anyone managed to photo/video this station without a problem?

You should be OK provided you check-in first. Mind you it's not the best location for pics, though it is not completely impossible.

What time of the day are you aiming for? There's an outside chance that I might be around.

I've taken a few photos of 90s in the platforms from outside of the barriers. Got some odd looks from the barrier staff but nothing more.

Hopefuly somewhere between 1130 and 1230 as I will be videoing King's Cross and Euston first.

Ok heres my London report.

Kings Cross - Had no problem the station manager reconised me from September.

Euston - No problem

Liverpool Street - This time I was allowed to video I think the staff there must of been reminded following my complaint back in september.

Charing Cross - Took 20 mins to sign in because I was given a safety breifing.

St Pancras - Security staff member had to be with me but I didnt mind infact he was intrested in what I was talking about and he enjoyed it as well.

I can tell you that one of the station managers at St Pancras is on the forums.

Also had not a single problem videoing on the tube

Which platforms at St Pancras did the security staff member have to be with you on? Or all of them? When I went in summer, the Southeastern gateline staff let me onto the highspeed platforms but I didn't try any others.

Also, what do they brief you on? Whenever I've been to a London station I just ask the gateline staff if I can take a few photos, usually they just let me through, or for unbarriered stations (Kings Cross/sort of Paddington) just walk onto the platform. However it has to be said that until I joined this forum I didn't actually know you had to sign in, no one's ever said anything at my usual places (Manchester Piccadilly/Victoria, Preston, York etc).

The EMT, FCC and Southeastern platforms although i didnt have time to go on to the southeastern platforms. The eurostar ones are probably for eurostar passengers only.

The breif was all about the evacuation procedures, fire alarm sounds, meeting points, Unattended/Left luggage situations, safety etc. I learned a protocol called a HOT protocol.

What a load of nonsense, they can't tell you all that in 20 Min; it took me half a day, plus several walks around the station to learn everything I needed to know. Surely all they need to say is "don't use tripod, don't go into non public areas, don't use flash and don't distract staff."

In that case, maybe school children need to go on a railway course and get a badge they need to present when going to buy a ticket, and any adults too old have to take a day off work or have an evening class?

The safety briefing is tailored to the individual. There's no point telling Alex about making sure he only uses a wooden or fibreglass ladder on platforms, or not using grinders or welders in public areas because he's an enthusiast who wants to take a few pictures.
Strictly speaking, it wasn't necessary for Alex to sign in as he wasn't wanting to use a tripod etc. However, if someone asks to speak to the Duty Manager to sign in, then they aren't going to be refused and the decision will rest with the DM.

He is slightly mistaken in one aspect though. If the 'manager' he refers to as being on the forums is me, which I assume it is as I recognised his name and introduced myself, I hate to disappoint but I'm not a manager!

Klambert took quite a few pictures when we was there and staff were visible and did not do nothing but always tell a member of staff what you are doing because that way no trouble and they know your only doing your hobby.

No worries. I just happened to be in reception, with no hi-viz etc, just my suit and tie, so it's an easy mistake.

I have spotted at London Liverpool Street before it was a few years ago and i had no problems really even though i didn't ask permission.

If you are just spotting as in taking down numbers or just watching the action with your own eyes then thats not realy a problem providing you have a ticket since Liverpool Street does have barriers.

I was filming trains at London Liverpool Street and given that i live in london and have a disabled freedom pass which means it gives me free travel on tube, buses, trams, dlr and national rail between zones 1-6 24 hours a day i can easily touch in touch out on barriers.

Still like all London terminals infact all Network Rail managed stations it is best to inform staff in the reception it may not be nessacary to sign in but they will give you a visitors pass should a member of staff approach you and ask what you are doing show the pass and you will be left alone.

When I went to London Liverpool Street back in december i went into the reception next to P10 told the gentlemen that i was going to take pictures he gave me a pass and i had to sign in then sign out when finished. I am used to that at all NR managed stations except Gatwick Airport which is the only NR managed station i havent been to.
