I was wondering if there were any service that ran from Euston or Birmingham to Queen Street via Central Low Level, Anniesland and Maryhill. I know there are no trains that run it now but we’re there any back in the Intercity or early privatisation days?

Pretty sure the answer to that is no. But at one point the Up WHL sleeper did run diesel hauled through Central Low Level and via the curve at Rutherglen to reach Central High Level where it switched to electric traction.

What did happen for a while was HSTs running Kings Cross-ECML-Edinburgh-Queen Street. Possibly as many as 3tpd at one point ISTR.

In the early 80's the West Highland sleeper (Fort Bill - Euston) ran into Glasgow Queen St HL (as part of a Fort Bill - QS working) then reversed back to Stirling thence to Mossend and south to Euston.

But at one point the Up WHL sleeper did run diesel hauled through Central Low Level and via the curve at Rutherglen to reach Central High Level where it switched to electric traction.

Was that when it was a split portion working with the Stranraer sleeper?

My one trip with this routing was a Sunday night in April 1989. Sadly my records make no reference to another portion though it seems highly unlikely that the Fort William portion would run solo all the way to Euston so attaching a Stranraer portion seems logical. I can say that the train ran via Birmingham New Street where I alighted; all part of a 7-day ALR which included 7 WCML overnights.

1989 would tie in with a trip that i did on it (early Monday morning) from Crewe to Fort Bill. The train ran into GC High level where it split into two portions one for Fort Bill and one for Stranraer.

As far as 1989 Queen Street appears in the ‘InterCity’ map but by 1993 it was gone so I assume like Shrewsbury, Cleethorpes, Fort William and Fishguard Harbour it was withdrawn in 1992 and transferred to Central.

I think the change occurred in 1991 with electrification of the Cobbinshaw route. That allowed introduction of an hourly service for much of the day between Kings Cross and Glasgow Central though it also provided an electrified link between the North Berwick branch, electrified as part of the ECML scheme, and Shields Road depot.

Thanks for that clarification!
