The proof is everywhere,

For example many businesses a couple years ago got forced to use 'Seasons Greetings' instead of 'Merry Christmas'.

They were small changes, mostly and the press was also minimal.
No, I think you'll find it was the Christians who forced the people of Britain to call it "Christmas". It is the Christians who forced the date change from 21st to 25th!

Why should the Christians dictate to the people of Britain when we celebrate and what we celebrate? Yule (aka Yuletide) has been a special time of year in this country for thousands of years, before Christians forced us to change it to Christmas.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yule

http://www.mysteriousbritain.co.uk/festivals/december/christmas-yule-and-the-winter-solstice.html

Of course I do not find the term Christmas offending but I do find it rather ironic and annoying when Christians conveniently forget history and then moan that the term they brought to this country is not used. The cheek of it!!!

You don't have to celebrate. If you feel so strongly you could always treat it as a ordinary day and just go to work as normal...

And remember, if something's on Wikipedia, it must be right! ;)

Indeed, that is partly the point I am trying to make - people are free to make their own choices and should not have something rammed down their throat and should not be criticised for using a term like "Seasons Greetings" or similar. If you do not wish to read Wikipedia, an alternative link is provided or there are many other sources of information on the subject.

But equally, someone should be free to make their own choice and use the term "Merry Christmas" if they wish - instead it appears some of the PC brigade are telling people not to use it rather than letting them make their own choice. I have no problems with people using either term - as you say, it should be up to people themselves.

Thank you for editing your previous post to include an extra link which wasn't there when I originally replied.

Going back to the first post, the obvious way to stop Santa from being fat and drink-driving is to stop leaving mince pies and sherry out for him! ;)

I'm still not convinced anyone is saying not to say "Christmas," as most of the stories I've read on this matter are total fabrications.

But where/when has someone been forced not to use the term, which ironically the people of Britain were forced to use from circa 11th century and are now free to use a more suitable term to more inclusively and historically accurately call this time of year if they wish? The term Seasons Greetings is, arguably, better for reasons of inclusiveness, but I wouldn't want to see people be forced to use it against their wishes. I'm yet to be shown much in the way of evidence that this is occurring though.

I edited it shortly after posting, so you must have been fairly quick to read it before that.

I disagree that the term "Christmas" isn't inclusive, as in modern Britain a lot of people (without having conducted any research, dare I say the majority) see no religious connections to Christmas, it being merely a time of goodwill, presents and get togethers.

Well yes, I agree, it's become more of a general term, that's how most people seem to use it. I'm not saying it's exclusive but it's perhaps not as inclusive as Seasons Greetings. Anyway people should be free to use either term, but the people who moan at 'Seasons Greetings' being used and that it 'should be called Christmas' really need to take a history lesson in my opinion ;)

Can you show us your proof of this happening?

as I say, not much press was around of this but I did find this -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/6203447.stm

I highlight the bit I was on about -

"So in recent years there's been a conscious attempt to get the Christianity out of Christmas. Shops began telling their employees that they mustn't use the offensive expression "Merry Christmas" to customers, but wish then "Happy Holidays."

[Source BBC News]

In this article though they say about 'Happy Holidays' not 'Seasons Greetings'

Well, I do appologise that one of my fellow citizens has come out with utter garbage like this. He will be canned 12 times, tarred and feathered then put in the stocks on the steps of Flinders Street as punishment for the nasty things he has said.

There is no way the image of Santa can be linked to the promoting of anything other than Christmas. Doing something is not 'promoting', in the same way that politicians don't promote lieing despite they do it all the time, just because someone does something, it doesn't mean that it is what everyone should do.

If they wanted to change something, then why not change the idea that just because someone might act in a way or do something doesn't mean that you should do it too.

Santa will always travel at breakneck speeds across the world, drink millions of glasses of brandy and eat millions of cookies and look and act the way he does because he is Santa, that is what he does and no one will ever change that. When it comes to Christmas, political correctness has no jurisdiction here.
