Hi all!

Does anyone who's gone through a franchise change know if salaries change for management staff or remain the same?

I ask as if we look at the Govia example with South Eastern, wouldn't SE manager's pay rise to reflect those in GTR? (assuming Govia keep the franchise)

Thanks!

At management level, it is normal for staff with the same job title to have different salaries depending on experience and the exact responsibilities, even within the same company. If there are large discrepancies, they may look to try and reduce them, but they don't have to.

It’s a difficult one as once at management level most of their wages can be negotiated to an extent, I don’t think all managers are on the same wage especially if they’ve been in the same role for a long period of time, chances are you’d need to fight for it a bit
During the last major franchise restructure where parts of franchises became parts of new ones, a lot of staff (who are on a fixed rate) never had there wages or conditions harmonised

This is what I thought. But I imagine SE salaries might rise in line to match the GTR equivalent?

They can, but they don't have to. They may find they have to to keep the good ones, though, but may choose not to in order to push out the less good ones. As things aren't unionised at that level, there doesn't have to be consistency.

Do you know of any instances where this has been the case? More a curiosity as you'd like to think they'd align with the other TOCs they ran, but obviously it's not necessarily the case...
