The class 230 thread’s conversation about cruise control got me thinking about what other automotive technology could be deployed on the railways for driver convenience, safety, passenger comfort or otherwise.
Below is a list of my initial thoughts, I’d be keen to learn if any already exist:
- stop start engines.
- sign recognition.
- automatic emergency braking (low speed application on approach to buffers).
- adaptive cruise control, possibly in injunction with the sign recognition.
- vehicle to vehicle data sharing (rail condition instead of road and traffic condition).
- heated windscreen.
- automatic wipers.
