TPE were running about 15-20 minutes late through Stalybridge early morning which isn't too bad - they seemed to pick up the delay between York and Leeds.

Problems through Birmingham seem to be attributed to a "problem under investigation;" no idea what but as there's no snow here it can't be that and due to signalling problems at Hemel Hempstead.

Not totally sure 100% what is going on with National Express East Anglia, they just decideed to copy and paste a bit of generic text out of the National Rail site without any specifics and a very vague statement, I guess it savers someone the job of doing it.

Major points problems at Colchester. This prevented unit going onto Sudbury branch with no replacement buses available either. Due to sheer volume of traffic at this time large delays soon built up. Add to this another points failure at East Suffolk Jn preventing any Lowestoft/Felixstowe trains its not been good.

All Low/Pbo-Lst 170s are being pined at Ipswich & Norwich trains are halved to hourly. More probs on WA have led to Stansted Express reduced to half-hourly & all Stansted-Stratford cancelled for the rest of the day.

Bombardier have worked extra hard to ensure that 377s won't work in any conditions!

Also, does anyone know what happened to the 2136 FCC service to Letchworth? Got off at Hatfield (platform 2, so no need to walk back miles) then noticed when crossing the footbridge that it had stopped one and a bit cars off the platform - having looked like it had passed a red signal (but that might have changed as it passed).

Was sitting there for some 15 minutes or so! Quite relieved that we managed to get off a train before it failed though.

Well it's any of three reasons that something happened to the 2136 FCC to Letchworth, not sure on exact reason but you get a basic idea of what it might have been.

1. Driver Shortages
2. Snow
3. Broken Down Trains

Haven't heard anything else to what happened to this particular train.

I was just intrigued because the train had been fine (317 refreshed) and ran along at top speed on the fast line the whole way.. doors worked fine at Finsbury Park and Potters Bar, and the doors must have shut okay at Hatfield for the train to move on.

I wonder what caused it to stop so abruptly and then not move a centimetre for so long? The only other option was a passenger action perhaps?

Northern have got bags over their couplers, well certainly the 158s on the Yorkshire Coast Line. Probably a silly question, what are the bags actually preventing?

Absolute chaos today.

No de-icers or ghost trains ran last night, so the juice rail was heavily iced up with Desiros & 458s falling down all over the place, the only relatively reliable form of traction was a good old BR 455 & even one or two of them failed. But not as many as the new stock.

Then to top it all a complete signal failure at Berrylands, everything on the up at a stand for betweem 35 & 45'.

Pompey Direct closed until mid morning, as was the Guildford to Aldershot and Ascot line, Alton line & both routes via Effingham Junction.

Absolute farce.

Very deep snow here in Hartlepool, but the Pacers & Sprinters held out well. Only delays were the GC's, and they were up to about an hour.

Northern's were mainly on time, a few were 5-10 mins late, but thats nothing - even though they were full for the local derby!

NXEA having trouble on the local lines.

Numerous units failing or running with no heat. Not helped by 1x156 being out of service following collision damage after hitting a car and a 153 with a knackered engine - then a 170 derails overnight on frozen points.....
