I have asked about past services to Liverpool Lime Street but not what could be coming in the future so What services could be introduced or reintroduced in the future? and what services would you like to see introduced at Lime Street

Interesting post, which destinations would be best introduced though? New destinations in Wales/Scotland?

Scotland is coming I think TPE plan to introduce services to Glasgow via WCML and Edinburgh via ECML. Wales I have heard is Llandudno and Cardiff via Shrewsbury. I would love to see Bristol or Reading included in CrossCountry.

Should have said apart from the obvious destinations of Glasgow/Edinburgh/Cardiff, I'm sorry for not pointing that out.

What about joining the existing Liverpool Lime Street to Wigan North Western and Wigan North Western to Stalybridge as a though service?
Yes most won't use it end to end but it would reduce the need to turnaround at Wigan North Western and provide more direct journey opportunities.

OR have the proposed Liverpool to Llandudno be extended to Holyhead?

No problem, I think for Wales maybe Swansea as an extension. For Scotland I would struggle to get others justifiable. I think the latter would be difficult as I assumed that it meant Llandudno on the branch line not the junction station. I like the first idea though

How would that work? Not only would such a service only be possible by reversing at Wigan North Western, but surely it would also have to cross the main WCML tracks?

Is it not because one half is EMU and other DMU operated.

Glad there is service to Glasgow Central coming

How about Liverpool to Plymouth?
Not sure about that. I don’t think it’s an original suggestion though, and I’m always wondering if the regular suggestions about Liverpool are just some sort of trolling. I mean how often does the overall subject need to be discussed anyway...

Pre-2004/2008, the previous limited through peak workings were split in two precisely for this reason (as convenient as they personally were for me).

If/When HS2 opens to Manchester then there would be less demand between Manchester and Birmingham so could one of the XC Manchester trains serve Liverpool.
Until HS2 if XC could get some more rolling stock then could one XC service divide at Stafford with one portion to Manchester and one to Liverpool, alternatively one XC could go to each of Manchester and Liverpool and one London North Western to each of Manchester to Liverpool, this would mean both places would keep 2tph to Birmingham having 1 fast and 1 semi-fast/stopping service each.

Get rid of West Midlands Trains’ involvement in Liverpool and push the 350/3s and 350/4s over to Cross Country. 8 car trains all day Birmingham Intl - Manchester via New Street and Stoke (hourly) and Birmingham Intl - Liverpool Lime St via New Street and Crewe (stopping at places like Penkridge, Winsford and Hartford).

Then use pairs of Voyagers on hourly Manchester - Bournemouth and single 221s on Liverpool - Bristol; allowing the Southamptons and Plymouth’s to go wherever they need to go in the Yorkshire / Tynes / Scotland bit.

350s could cycle on and off maintenance at Ardwick, as an example; and driver’s could be based all at Crewe for ease.

I'd rather WMT than the execrable XC any day. Arriva TOCs are, other than Chiltern, awful.

One path exists in May for a Birmingham Intl - Liverpool Lime clearly...

And by routing both South Coast XCs via Solihull then there will be capacity.

Keep up at the back, the May service is joining up the International local to the Liverpool, they are existing paths. XC want both services via International, this is well known and they would never accept both via Solihull.

Sorry, but what are you suggesting for Birmingham - Liverpool? An hourly 8-car instead of the current half-hourly 4-car?

Look again - 1tph from Birmingham to Liverpool using 8/350 and 1tph from "Somewhere" (XC Network) to Liverpool with 5/221.
