That's pretty much meaningless without the actual scores.

By which I mean, consider the two following potential sets of figures.

No.1
Operator A scores 96.4%
B 96.3%
C 96.2%
D 96.0%
E 95.7%
F 72.8%

No.2
Operator A scores 96.4%
B 95.7%
C 71.8%
D 68.8%
E 67.5%
F 61.8%

In no.1 Operators A to E are all excellent; in no.2 A & B are excellent.

Being ranked 5th could mean Excellent (in option 1) or pretty ordinary (in option 2). Indeed the 5th ranked operator in option 1 is a better performer than the 3rd ranked in option 2.

Given that these cover 4 months when Rosso was still council owned, then not certain how much is laid at Transdev’s door but hey, let’s not worry about that.

I find the Hornby “amazing” utterances trying and irritating but not quite as much as the continued sniping. Christ, they’ve not had Rosso a year and it was a sorry state when they got it.

The actual scores are commercially sensitives so in the non-public confidential part of the meeting. They publish the rankings merely to incite a bit of competitiveness between the operators and motivation to improve.

Why do I feel the only reason the OP posted this was to have a go at Rosso.

Half the time period they weren’t even owned by Transdev, and then the problems in the second half were well documented as Transdev tried to turn around the mess that they council left the company in.

Partly the reason, other part was to highlight how well some independent operators where doing in the region..
You say half, Transdev had owned Rosso for 9 months during that period, and while yes there where some issues in the beginning, i personally don't think that this should be used as a type of excuse for the following months. Transdev knew what they where walking into before they bought Rosso.
Obviously, however, the recent large investment in vehicles and refurbishments has been welcomed

Jim Stones at the top surprises me very little, while not in any way a main player they have always seemed to run their operations competently and their vehicles being well kept.
Transdev knew what they where walking into before they bought Rosso.
To an extent yes, but from what I gather there were some things that were kept from Transdev and only came to light once they had taken it off the council.

Even the criteria would be more use than this! One of the criteria could be whiteness of livery! I'm number 10 however I could be number 5 if I improve 'something'!

They took over in mid January and if you think they can turn around a failing bus company in just a few months, then you’re smoking too much of the good stuff. You’re confusing “excuse” with a valid reason.

I can understand your point. But I see it as a company with major resources who can bring change in within a short amount of time (not route brands etc).. I believe one of the major problems was fleet maintinece at the time. While this is serious, should there not have been plans put in place when the problems where discovered? Bringing in loaned vehicles from outside the group, ie dawsons rentals. (Yes I remember 4 or so vehicles being brought in towards the end of June, but wasn't this a bit late?) While this is not a preferred option, and maybe costly, it would have maintained standards and kept services running.

Given that they had to move a depot in the middle of that? That things may have been worse - due diligence only reveals so much?

You’re oversimplifying things and, dare I suggest, haven’t experienced working in such circumstances.

Okay they moved depots, but that was part of the agreement in purchasing Rosso, therefore they should have had the plans in place to make sure that the move was swift and customers weren't effected by it. Yes the vehicles maintenance came at an inconvenience to both the company and passengers, but in reality they should have come up with short term solutions to minimize disruption; which in my opinion, they failed to do.

So you’re taking on a new business, having a major business change that you have to do, and then discover that what you’ve bought isn’t as good as what you’d been sold.

And at the same time, you have maintenance staff heading away because of that change? And there’s over a quarter of the year that is outside your ownership that you’re being judged on?

And as I asked, please explain your experience so we can fully appreciate the basis on which you base your opinion?
